Doh. I know this shouldn't happen but then I have a bit of a shady Lexus. I have been Jet washing my car a lot recently because of all the salt on the roads and have noticed that when cleaning under the bonnet i've loosened the VIN plate and lo behold its no longer there. Now forgive my ignorance on this small piece of ID but it is something I dont check on regulary cos you dont expect it to go walkies. All I need to know is will I be able to get a replacement? Due to mt cars dodgy past [stolen recovered etc] I can only assume it has been tampered with at some stage.

The main chassis number is still there and hasn't been tampered with at all. If that had any signs of messing with I would have given the car a berth larger than the QE2 takes to turn around. This may have been off for a while and i've only just noticed. I checked the numbers on it against the stamped ones when I bought it so I know it was definitely there. I spoke to someone who said that salvage dealers remove them so no one can steal the identify of the car while its awaiting its clearance. If thats what happened then they didn't refit it very well ;)

QUOTE (Claire G @ Jan 10 2003, 08:53 PM)

Just run this past my hubby, he reckons there are places advertising in the back of the Auto Trader that will produce VIN plates....

which ones that Claire.. Joe's chop shop?

I can relate to that. It reminds me of the place I bought the car from. Cut and shuts everywhere and my GS parked in the corner winking at me seductively.

It was love at first sight. :)
