Why is the word "phonetic" not spelt with an "f"?

Same could be said for alot of ph starting words ;)

does that go for alot of over words like knight and know, with silent k? something to do with greek alpherbet?

You got it....Knight also has it's origin in Greek

English is a real mish-mash of Latin, Germanic and Scandanavian languages and examples like this exist all over the place.

the way england is going right now, islamic and african will become apart of the english langage too, let alone polish bulgarian and every other country joining the EU :P
