Heated Wing Mirrors ?

hi everyone,

i have been looking through the forum but could not find the answer to my question, so thought i would ask for your help.

my is200se "y" reg has very hot wing mirrors, i have owned the car from new and never noticed this before, just that i was stuck in bad traffic on saturday, when i rested my arm out of the window i felt how hot the wing mirrors were. now i have read about that older models had the mirrors working from the ignition, which mine do, but surely they may be powered but don't the just heat when the temp is cold? eg some kind of temperature device to turn heating elements on and off, as whats the point in heating the mirror when it's not frozen / ice n it?

well thanks in advance

richard

Think the old ones were always on, whereas the newer ones are controlled via the rear window heater button, which is modified to also show that it operates the heated wing mirrors - there was a thread somewhere, I'll try and find it
