Speed Camera Detectors

Recommended Posts

Can anybody recommend any speed camera/laser detectors.

Was looking at the Road Angel Compact thats on offer at Halfrauds with free laser detector for 149.99.

But theres just that many out there.

Had a look on a few reviews etc and they all differ on each site i go on.

I am looking at buying one in the next couple of weeks as i will be starting to commute quite alot.

Thanks

only 2 choices that are worth the money (i've used both).

Passport 8500 x50

ValentineOne

If you have the dough, I suggest you get the V1, as its better. x50 is a good second choice, although it can get jammed if you follow a car that has a detector too closely. It also has a tendency to get false laser readings if you get tailgated by a car with HID.

I've used both, and are both good. But V1 is the best. X50 is second.

Forget about the beltronics one, as it underperforms (my audio specialist resells them ...... but i aint touching one!)

Hope this helps.

I use the Origin B2 and I'm well happy with it, just need to get it installed into the new car now :D

aido just had a look at that Origin B2 its on offer at hafrauds for £279.99. It says detachable laser detector included, is the laser detector any good as we have alot of mobile vans around here.

Thanks

To be honest the mobile vans around here never set it off so wondering if these use radar?

The unit itself does work as occassionally it got set off by the sensors on traffic lights, not sure what they were up to!!

To be honest due to new legislation coming in you would have to remove the laser addon anyway to make the Origin legal - they confirmed this on their website - but I'll be leaving it installed!!

I got a Snooper and it works OK. Problem with laser detectors is they only warn you after you have been zapped :duh: I combine the Snooper with a scamera data base on my TomTom which is far better.

Best bet is a GPS based system like Road Angel and keeping a good lookout.

The best non-GPS based detector is widely recognised as the Valentine-One, as it recognises all threats and has a 360° warning radius. It is also switchable into various threat detection modes which is very useful in eliminating non-genuine threats such as microwave from automatic doors in town, etc.

When combined with a GPS based scamera locator (uploaded to your TomTom or similar device), you have maximum coverage from just about any existing speed detection system.

£279.99 :o  i know a place that can do the origin B2 solo (the one that requires no wiring) for £169.99 :winky: The laser detection facility is a plug and play type module i believe. subscription on the origin system is free for the initial 6 months and then £50 a year, thereafter ;)

The road angle unit is ok but the database is not kept up to date there’s some new Scameras gone in round here been working a month but not on the RA yet phoned them up they say they are notified by old bill\ safety partnership sounds like a nice money making scheme to me :tsktsk:

I use the database off www.pocketgps.com on my TomTom, it is updated monthly and costs about £12 a year to subscribe. It as up to date as you can get as subscribers get free membership for life if they are the first to identify a new site.

Reckon that a Sat Nav System with scamera database and a separate detector is the best option followed by something like Road Angel. A detector on it's own is no good for lasers and limited for Gatsos' also they will not warn at all about TruVelo.
