Hi there

Just joined the forum. I have a 1991 UZZ32 'Active' Soarer. I used to have a gorgious LS400 but always admired the Soarer.... so now I have one! Currently my 32 is in for a paint job before it gets its interior done. I'm down in Hailsham, East Sussex and the car is (or will be!) black.

hi welcome to loc. :)

only ever driven a soarer 2.5tt so does it go better than that

the V8 must sound better :) :winky:

Actually, from what I'm told, the 2.5TT is a fair bit faster than the 4.0 V8 in acceleration but i think the top spped is better on the 4.0. That said, the active suspension on the Soarer Active and the four wheel steering means it corners flat meaning more speed. So for acceleration the TT is best (although there are some apparently faster supercharged V8's out there!) - I've heard it called a Skyline/Evo/Impreza eater! Me, I like the way it looks awesome, has technoology that you'd be hard pressed to find in todays best cars, is as luxurious as a sports coupe can get and yepp, it sounds awesome especially in kick-down. Can you guess I like it?

Chips:

Thanks for the welcome...

THere must be some mistake... the Active was a special edition made only with the V8 engine. Only 850 (~) were made and it is characterised by the four wheel steering and 'Active' suspension (stay flat). This gear alone weighs about 90kg hence it being only available as V8. To my knowledge, no-one has put the 2.5tt engine in an Active as you'd lose any advantage the TT gives.

Cheers

Hi,

Im no expert on the Soarers, but from what ive been told this TT Soarer manual is very rare because most are autos and it does have the Active suspension as far as i can see because there is wiring going into the top mounts of the suspension and owner is sure its a Active.

When i see the person next i will ask again to make double sure because of what you have said.

Cheers..

Hi Chips

Well I checked with the guys at the Toyota Imports Forum which is probably the premier place for specialist Soarer info and got a fair number of replies.... all of which indicate that although such a beast is possible, its impractical and unheard of. There is even a description of what would be required in doing the job and basically its a rebuild from the ground up and even then all the warning systems would be ringing out like St. Pauls at a Royal wedding! It was muted that your friend may have the 2.5TT GT-T which has the TEMS suspension but not the active.

Ehhh.... bet you wish you hadn't mentioned your mate now and there you were being nice! Seriously, no offence intended - I would have been facinated if someone had made that change or if Toyota had actually made one. The 2.5tt is a more powerful car than the V8 but one of the reasons is that it is lighter.

Ah, Jen's car. Yes, that's TEMS like my auto -- Toyota Electronically Modulated Suspension. Stiffens the damping. The full "active" suspension on the UZZ32 V8 is a completely different and vastly more complicated hydraulically-controlled kettle of fish with 4-wheel steer, and they only made 873.

If anyone is interested in Toyota's technical tour de force, this is the on-line "bible" on the Active >>>> http://planetsoarer.com/

Hi,

 Yep i did say im no Soarer expert :D

Yep Jens car is the car im talking of,at least its given people even more reasons to talk about Soarers.

TBH i thought TEMS was the same as a Active, but not owning one i only sort of take half a interest in them.

Sorry for the confusion :)

Chips.
