What would make our GS300 (2002) ***** each time it goes from 1st to 2nd gear? It is not smooth. We had the dealer check it and they say they only felt it once. My husband and I have been driving 40 plus years and we know something is not right. I drove a loaner car (RX300) today and it shifts beautifully.

hmmmmmm.

mis aligned bands

faulty selector valve

sticking solonoid

the gearlever could need adjusting

or any number of electrical or hydraulic parts in the gearbox.

there is no way a 2002 car should be clunking into gears

Hi Linda,

Welcome to the club :)

Whatever the problem is, (and Supracharged-IS340's technical mumbo jumbo made that perfectly clear  . ),

as it's new car (relatively) I think you should take it to your dealer, and let them have a look at it.

Whatever, the problem is, it's sure to be covered under warranty.

Don't accept excuses from them. You've got a class car there. B)

Have to say I've had / got the same problem, it only occours when driviing in a very sedate manor (Traffic jams, round town) and when the speed is just above / below the normal gear change speed (first to second gear).

It does not occour very often, I've had Lexus look at it and they found nothing wrong with the car and or gear box. If I accelerate past the normal first second gear change then I do not have a problem.

  • 5 months later...

I've just purchased a Y reg GS300 SE and it does EXACTLY what willisjw said happens to his car.

I read elsewhere on these forums a while back that others have experienced the same problem, but no-one has said that Lexus had fixed it.

That said, it's a lovely car.
