hi,

i'm going to be replacing my rear tyres soon and was looking at goodyear eagle f1s as they've been highly recommended here.

i've been quoted £95 including VAT for the new gs-d3 in 215/45/ZR17 size

wondered if this was any good?

also why are the dunlop sp9000s that the car came with so much more expensive (£120ish)?

cheers,

rob

Don't know why they're more expensive?!?!

I've just called Lex One Call to let them know my tyres need changing and was quite impressed. They told me to take it to Kwick-Fit (hmmm, not too sure on that) and they will replace the tyres like for like if that's what I want.

Don't mind the Dunlops - they seem hard-wearing, I've done 28k miles and these are the first replacements.

word of caution clare, I also have a Lex car, and they too told me to go to Kwik-Fit (who had terrible problems getting the tyres on and off the rim ... so keep an eye on what the fitter is doing and check your wheels!) - but Kwik Fit were told by Lex to replace the 9000's with 2000's (despite having 9000's in stock) ... I was not impressed, but there isn't anything I can do to change Lex's mind. The 2000's are pretty poor in comparison.

But it's their car .........

Anyway, keep an eye on those fitters when they are fighting with your new boots ....!! :geek:

Silly question really :-

Can a local Lexus dealer fit new tyres? I had my corroded alloys changed over and they didn't damage the rims. Also, it's the first time I've ever had wheels or tyres changed and they've been balanced perfectly.

I'll be going to Lexus Hadleigh when I need new tyres :D

Anyone know how dealers compare on price/fitting for Dunlop 9000's ?

Selling & fitting tyres are NOT a dealers CORE business.

They therefore don't get the discounts specialist tyre fitters can get.

I'm not suggesting that a dealer is not good at fitting tyres, just they don't get the discounts. (Or don't pass them on!)

I fitted Goodyear Eagle F1's B) and the best price I got quoted was £104 inc vat. from a specialist tyre centre.

The same tyres are available from dealer's at £164 inc. vat.

I've always used Kwik-Fit as mine was also leased although not with Lex. I got through several sets of tyres and never had any problems with their fitters. Fortunately the lease company I was with had no issue with me requesting replacement Bridgestones as that was what the car was supplied with.

I think that it has been more to do with the fact that they have given the job to the brake specialist or MOT guy as opposed to the fitters! Fitting is a skill .... the good ones can change your boots in no time - without a scratch ... whereas the brake specialist might only fit one or two sets per week ..... 45 profiles are a b@gger to fit anyway becuase the sidewall is so stiff and small!

Last time I was in the guy took 10 minutes to get the tyre off the rim ..... I was on the point of putting the boiler suit on and doing it myself!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :withstupid::ph34r::yahoo:

As with Lex leasing .... there was no movement, believe me I tried!!! My next move is to switch from KF to National - and see what they have in stock first!!! :shifty:

Enquired about some tyres today too ... need doing soon ...

215/40x17 Bridgestone 90+vat each fitted, balanced etc ...

Choice of RE040 (standard fit) or S03 pole positions ... same price.

I had some S02's on my turbo mr2 ...

Ripped through the 235/40x17 rears in 7k miles .... :whistling:

Damn that car was crazy fast

Anyone tried the S03's ?? I know the mr2 crowd luv em.

Yes I had RE040's from new, then S02's then S03's then back to RE040's. To be honest I didn't notice a huge difference except that the RE040's seem to last a lot longer. I think the S03's offered the best grip, noise level was about the same.

Try getting your local Kwik-Fit to put on a set of Sc430 runflats!!

That should keep em busy for a few hours!

LOL .... think I would invest in a bead braker and balancer and do it myself!!! :withstupid:

It's all to do with the amount of lubrication on the rim ..... :zorro::innocent::devil: B)

Thanks for the tip - I'll check the wheels straight afterwards!

When I rang Lex I asked them to fit like for like - maybe they've changed their policy?

Thanks for the prices Grim - sounds like I've been offered a good price.

I never though an innocent topic like mine could go off in the direction of 'rim lubrication' though

Hi Everyone! :P

I've been calling everyone for prices today as I need to replace all four shoes and at the moment I'm running around on about 1.6mm.

I found a place in manchester that does the Eagle F1s for £98.66 inc of vat & fitting.

The thing is I can't decide wether to go for the Eagle F1s or Michelin Pilot sport

Has anyone tried the Michelin Pilot Sports???
