Ls400 Mk4 Outside Temperature Unit Problem

Recommended Posts

Hi,

My outside temperature indicator is reading incorrectly. Today it says that it is 11 degrees outside, when it is about 5.

The other day it claimed it was -20 degrees.

Has anyone has similar problems at all?

I have removed the sensor unit and opened it up. I will try to fix it as the replacement from Lexus is £108

Gulp!

Hi mate - Where is the temp senor located ?

Maybe its possible to get an aftermarket one (like you can do with the o2 sensors). After all a temp senor isn't exactly a complex part - at least i dont think do.

Hi,

The temperature sensor is a black box located to the right of the passenger side horn (when looking at the front of the car.

I agree that it should not be that complex, although when you open up the box it has a lovely temperature sensing transducer, and half a dozen surface mount components on a pcb.

I am going to try to mend it, but failing that will try a breakers yard for a replacement. After all, £108 for knowing whether it is cold outside seems extortionate.

Guys,

Ignore what I said about this sensor, I have just realised that this is the "sniffer" - it controls the cabin recirculatory system.

If it "smells" fumes from the atmosphere, this is the unit which causes your cabin air to recirculate rather than drawing in air from outside the cabin.

If anyone knows where the outside temp sensor actually is, please post on this forum.

Sorry for the confusion!
