New car day today – From a 200 to a 250 - Pics of both below

Don’t need to say anymore – today – and only today –

“I am the sexiest man on the planet!”

I think that's the first time I have seen a photo of both cars together. It is amazing that when they are not parked beside each other the new one seems to be a much bigger car but in these photos they don't look that far apart on size.

Great shot. You must have had an open top bus (Double decker) to get those shots

Anyway, great shots. Congrats - and you've got the '07 already!

 I thought that the old IS had become a van, with a rack on the side to hold panes of glass  or maybe a new Sat Nav aerial :tomato:

Whereas the frontal shot shows some degree of evolution from old to new, the rear ends look quite different...

Thanks for all your comments.

Unfortunately can’t get them both up in the countryside to take some scenic pics, as the leasing company collection man took the ’04 200 away at tea time. I only had a few hours with them both together.

Yes I'm really chuffed with the new IS. Sat in it on the drive tonight working my way through all of the menus in the MM.

Checked out lots of LEX plate combinations on the DVLA web site and I still prefer the ‘MY’ style. I'm not one for plastering my name on the car, however I think that the cars/brand are great and am happy to do the plate thing that relates to the car. I’ll have to join Gold to see if I can sell the old one.

07 plates only allowed on the road from March 1st – Yes dealer delivered at lunch time today on trade plates and after I had finished the picture session I put it on the drive. You’re not supposed to drive them until March 1st.

Lucky b :tsktsk: d! :D

Makes the first IS look so dated!

I'm not sure that it does, sure the 250 has a very pretty nose but I think that the 200 looks the more elegant car

the IS200 is quite a cheap looking car nowadays...don't think the two really compare...you have to remember the 200 was pitched at a totally different market.

The 200 seems to have been a stop gap car for Lexus when they discovered that they needed to compete in the BMW 3 series market. They have refined their product to compete with the current 3 series, I waited untill I had seen a 250 before I bought one of the last 200s. Just for interest when my 200 was in for service and Lexus Stoke kindly lent me a 250 I showed my new toy off to a group of friends who have a lot to do with cars of all descriptions and without putting words in to their mouths all agreed that the 250 was technically superior, more "grown up" and also far more corporate but had lost a fair bit in the looks department and had lost a degree of their quircky charm, perhaps these quirks had prevented many folk from buying the IS200 but having owned a fair few cars in my past can safely say that this is one car that I really like...I've even washed it a few times.

But then I'm a little wierd.. My comparison of the old BMW E34 M5 to the current M5 was that the E34 was a pretty lady in a black cocktail dress and the E60 was a porn star...Both of them turn heads but for different reasons.

What colour interior does your 250 have? My 220d is being delivered tomorrow.

All the best with your 220d tomorrow - you won't be disappointed.

I know I'm probably boring but both 200's have been and now my 250 is Silver outside and Black interior.

I really wanted to have a paler colour interior but thought that both the Lipari and Ischia interiors are so pale that they would start to look grubby fairly quickly.

I have loved the shape of both 200's that I have had over the past 6 years. But when you change from a 200 to a 250, even just to sit and move them on and off my drive, it struck me that the new car feels so much more a Lexus, a grown up car, whereas the 200 feels more like a go kart and it belies it's original Toyota heritage. If you look at the 'shoulders' that the new car has from the front to the back it has a brilliant road presence.

One thing that I have noticed is that because we both like to drive with a straight up back, that the seat back will not go quite vertical enough - OK for all of you guys who like to 'lie down' to drive - but leaves me not quite supported. I'll have a look at the weekend when I have more time to set things up properly.

Thank you.

I chose the silver too because of wear. I prefer the cardoxton, but it shows scuffs and scratches much more easily, and also watermarks.

I was very very keen on the beige leather, but ended up going for the grey because of the beige carpets getting dirty so quickly.

I figure it's better to have it look better most of the time than better once a week when it's been cleaned, hopefully without dripmarks, and without foot prints in the beige.

Hope you enjoy it - it looks fantastic.

Gareth, Have a great day today - it's sunny here today - hope it is for you.

Pls post pics and don't forget to get the step laddrers out to get the double decker bus overview!

Thank you very much.

The day's started very well already.

Got up at 6 to go to the new gym for the first time (changed from old one, so it's not a routine), but had a great workout and some time on the bags.

Now I'm just waiting for one of my minions to turn up to take me to work.

I'll take shots at lunch and upload them.

G

Oh, and I do think I'll be able to beat the double decker ... ;)

I see them like this.

The 1st gen IS has the stance of a rugby player. It has the look of leaning forward, pushing itself along with a slightly aggressive character. You feel like you should be sitting straight up or even a little forward as well when your driving.

The new one though has a more sedate look. It seems to be sitting back. It looks relaxed and I can imagine that you feel like sitting leaning slightly back in the driving seat as well. It look more like it is being pulled along.
