Hi, I have currently got a subwoofer and amp connected without any fuss

to the standard IS200SE sound system. I have a run a 4 AWG (thick)power lead

from the Battery (fused nr battery) down the left side of the car behind the

panel under the doors, through to the boot. I spliced into the wires you can

see in the boot from the rear 6x9 speakers. This is ok if you are only running

a subwoofer, as this signal is low pass (bass frquencies) only.

The reason for this is that the rear speakers are actually 4, not 2 as you would

normally think. The Woofers (bass) are run as seperate speakers than the Tweeters

(mid - high freq). The Woofer cable you see in the boot sends the bass signal from the amp

mounted behind the glovebox. The tweeter( mid-high freq) is fed from on top

of the rear shelf under the speaker cover. I don't know why Lexus wanted to make

it so complicated, but there we are. So its ok to splice into the wires you can see in

the boot to the 6x9's if you just want the bass signal,& you have an amplifier that

can accept a high level input. You can still use this method if your amplifier uses

a low level RCA Phono input, you just have to buy a High to Low Speaker level

converter that will give you the RCA Phono output you want.

Look here for an example LINK

There are a couple of easy places to Earth in the boot, the luggage hoops for

example. You can undo one of them, sand off the bolt hole so a good earth is

obtained, slide in your ring or spade underneath the luggage hoops, and tighten

the bolt. Have a look, as it all depends on where you are mounting the Amplifier,

try to Earth within 18 inches of the where the Amp will be.

If further down the line you want to change speakers or add another amp or

head unit, things then become a lot more complicated. :tsktsk:

I am in the process of adding a 4 channel Alpine amp, new Alpine Head Unit,

Alpine component Speakers in the front doors, & Alpine 6x9's on the rear shelf.

I have read about othere members swapping this & that on the forums, & think

best to change the lot all at once. You can keep the Original Lexus Head Unit

if you want too, and add amps, + speakers etc, & use something called a

JL Audio Cleansweep, this can turn the high level output from the head unit

into RCA's etc and also do neat tricks like making the radio sound at exactly

the same level aas the cd player etc. Its quality kit,(I run a JL Audio Sub + Amp)

but very expensive for what it does.

I'd rather spend the same money on a :winky: REALLY :winky: good head unit.

I am planning on doing the install sometime in the next 4 weeks (work permitting),

& will post pictures of the install & finished results.

But in answer to you question :D if you just want a Sub + Amp, its fairly easy.

Run power + Earth leads, find a nice place for the sub box + Amp. Hook into the rear

6x9's for a bass signal. Simple.

Have fun, any questions, send me a message

Wozza

Yeah thats the nav/dvd box. Too see the amp, pull the glove box out, squeeze the sides so the glove box drops down and you can see its cooling fins in the top left
