New Is And Gs Alloys

Recommended Posts

Noticed my alloys pitting over the w/end whilst washing the car. Does anyone here have the same problem? Thought Lexus have addressed the problem by now from the Old IS and GS days. Are these covered under warranty?

Noticed a lumpy blister appearing on the Drivers side front, just on the inside of a spoke. No previous damage there at all.

The nearside rear has a chunk of lacquer and paint missing, about the size of a ha'penny...*** knows where that went.

All in all, I keep my car (and wheels) immaculate and clean, it's garaged etc, but these don't seem to wear too well. If it gets worse, it's going in.

PS - the same can be said for the paintwork, which is definitely inferior to our Nissan Note, which is newer than the Lex.

I had a front alloy replaced due to corrosion 4 months after picking up my IS. The car is now 15 months old and I've just had all 4 alloys replaced, again due to corrosion - and while I was in there was another IS getting 4 new ones as well. The problem lies with poor laquering that leads to corrosion bubbling around the inside edge of the spokes. The car is washed weekly with nothing more than a sponge and warm water. Basically the alloys are of poor quality. Nevermind, the car looks great with spanking new alloys and the paintwork still looks glossy and smooth.

I've slightly curbed 2 of my alloys - both nearside ones. If the blisters appear no where near the curbed parts, will Lexus replace them?

This problem does not just effect the new IS -

My A4 only ever went in for one warranty repair - guess what? Corroded alloys!

My Dad's just taken delivery of a new 535d Sport on an '07 (amazing car, don't tell him I said that), and one is already corroded!

OFF TOPIC - but that 535d is amazing - smooth and very fast. It gives him 30mpg too (mainly town driving)...not bad for a car that can do 0-60 in just over 6 seconds....You totally forget it's a diesel, and that Head Up Display is wicked!

I made a point of keeping my clean all the time but mine still correded. They now have a lovely kurb effect :D

I had my alloys done over a year ago. had them done by a local alloy specialist. they did my old car aswell. cost £200 for all 4 and they were two tone as in the face (that is usualy diamond cut) is bright silver and the back is dark silver. they are still like new. I wash them every week with car shampoo (no abrasives and no acids, eg wheel cleaners) and once a year I wax them with car wax. my old car's wheels lasted three years and I'm sure these will last longer.

Yep - mine are starting to blister too - I will take mine in when the blisters get bigger. I think a proper bead blast and refurbish with a decently thick layer of paint and laquer will probably do the job. Should have been done like that in the first place though....

Yeah they will - just run it in to your local dealer and get them to look at them. They will order up brand new alloys. :)

I'd be curous to know how Mr.Mole squares Lexus' "Passionate Pursuit of Perfection" with continually using crap alloys from an obviously underperforming supplier.

I had all four replaced @ 30k service. They were all blistering on the inside. No probs or fuss, all under warranty! :D :D
