Nexen N3000 - Well Impressive Budget Tyres!

OK well I got in touch with the local garages today looking for some Falkens.

Couldn't get them for love nor money today, so started looking at alternatives.

One of the places asked what I'd got, and then when I said they recommended the Nexen brand - they openly admitted it's one no-one has ever heard of but they were getting some great feedback from owners of highly modified Jap cars - we're talking 500bhp Subaru's and Evo's here!

I had a good look around the net, nothing really in the UK, but the guys in the US really seem to rate these tyres as better in the dry than the Goodyear F1's, which I was using as a benchmark.

Can't vouch for the F1's as I've never used them but these tyres are great for the money, very quiet and a stick to the road like **** to a blanket!

They seem to have launched earlier in the USA and they're getting some really good feedback from enthusiasts out there! Have to admit I'm impressed. The main problem I see is that they don't last as long as the harder compounds but seeing as the softer compound means more grip I'm all for it :D

The tread pattern seems pretty much identical to the Falkens, here's a pic of the Nexen:

Had a bit of fun wearing off the initial coating, took a guy called Faz out for a drive in the Aristo, he drives a really nice GS300 and popped in to the garage when he saw the size of the exhausts on the Aristo :D

He might be popping on here so hi mate if you read this :D

Yeah, I've heard about Nexen tyres, my local tyre specialist says that the Nexen brand is owned by Michelin. They seem like a good price.

These things are going great, done over 100 miles in them and they really do grip, had some fun tonight and pushed the car harder than I probably ever have with no sign of it breaking - just launches now instead of spinning the wheels before biting!

Bargain!

I've just been having a look on the net at the Nexen's and if they are as good as every says then they are an absolute bargain. I will definately be going for them/ I have just found then for £54.57 each with £10 delivery off the internet. That was for the standard 17" IS wheels. :D

To me that seems like a good price, I know you have to have fitting on top of that but thats not expensive and the website i looked at did do fitting at the centres they have around the country.

Definitely a good tyre but I don't understand how they're such a secret, maybe we should keep it this way so they stay cheap :D

Toyo's haven't half gone up in price, I got them at about 85 - 90 quid each last time, this time they wanted 126!

yes mate, these were reccomended to me when i had my tyres fitted last year. Opted for the Marangoni Zeta Linea's in the end (which for the record stick like glue and have the sexiest tyre tread i've seen  !!!). Might dabble into these when the time comes though :)

  • 4 months later...

Will do. Get them next monday.

How about wim uses your purchase of "less expensive" tyres as a research car?

We already have an image of the cars chassis and after the tyre fitment we will be "fine-tuning" the calibration. After this we can regularly measure the chassis and monitor the wear rate of the tyres in a clinical format mapping this in full view of LOC.

Are you up to this Wozza?

Alot of the BMW drivers (especially the M3) drivers currently LOVE the Falken FK-452 tyres. Supposed to be THE BEST high performance tyre Falken have ever produced and a few of the BMW forum members (the established members with lots of experience) claim they are the best tyres they have ever had, saying they are (in their opinion) better then the Michelin Pilot Sport, Continental and as good if not better then the Goodyear Eagle F1 and also quieter.

I could post links, but thought it might be a bit much posting links to a BMW forum....

I've just bought a set to replace some worn Dunlop Sport Max tyres and INSTANTLY they grip one hell of a lot better and are quieter. Not tried them in the wet yet, but the reviews are excellent and they were VERY CHEAP!

Got them from here:

Trying not to drive the car too much until I get the geometry sorted - the existing tyres were badly worn on the insides, so obviously something is not right! :D

You are in the wim signature...... Monday it begins ;)

I invite you to start a thread mapping the developments.... Tiss your car at the end of the day.... Also do you still have the corner weighting data from TDI? Reason i ask is the weight of the ICE also needs to be assessed so members can understand the full picture.

I do have it somewhere ,

*edit*

just found it, will bring on Monday+ will scan so LOC can see the document,

and the original WIM check to see where we started.

My IS was strangely 20KG heavier on the nearside front from what I recall.

Shall I start a thread in Wheels & Tyres or General Maintenance ?

Wozza was concerned with the comments regarding the wear rate.... Like you i'm not since i know the tyres abililities. So assuming the chassis is in good condition he will get good value for his money.
