After my 2 identical trips in each car oof 250 miles mixing hilld and motorway twists and turns and country track roads ther e is a winner.

BMW 320D MSPORT!!

Now before you flame me I appreciate all the comments on this forum and it has certainly helped me to understand the nigggles so I can look at them objectively.

You know it was the only sensible choice if you had to have an oil burner..Lexus made a mistake putting that engine and gearbox combo in the second gen IS IMHO...satisfying their need for european fleet market sales in place of driver satisfaction

I had a 320D Msport when i was working for BMW- lovely motor mate, the seats are fantastic and drive spot-on! The ONLY gripe I had, was pulling away! It's something to be aware of whilst you're getting used to it. i've had a couple of moments at lights etc lol! Nothing that a little more throttle can't sort out.

Enjoy....

Couldn't agree more, having had one for a year, the drive in the BMW (though very knobbly ride) is better, and I'm sure more economical (by up to 10mpg).

It handles better, but is stingy in the kit department. Horses for courses, but with hindsight probably a better car technically, though the Lexus is much better VFM.

BMW Cust Service where I am is exactly the same as Lexus - both owned by same people (Sytner) - so you're no worse off in my part of the world, and that new 5 series is exceptionally well made!

I think you amde the right choice - the BMW offers a really engaging (and fun!) drive. The lexus is everything the BMW isn't (and perhaps should be from an overall package POV). But a car is for driving and there is a reason why BMWs are the 'ultimate driving machine' :)

Don't forget to get it chipp'd after your first year of ownership ;)

but I felt less involved in the drive.

A bit late now I guess but perhaps you should have compared the IS220d Sport against the BMW 320d M Sport. :)
