Second Generation Is - Paint

Recommended Posts

Wonder what the chances are of collecting a stone that large on the roof of the car, especially travelling at around 80 mph on the motorway

Havng the paint damaged is a real pain but if it had come in through the windscreen it could have been something else altogether

I have experienced the same problem over the weekend, driving along motorway 70 ish and there was a hell of a noise, which gave me a shock as I did not see anything coming towards me i.e stone etc. No obvious damage to windscreen. I looked when I got home and found a dented and chipped area at the front of the roof, roughly above the interior lights. I have touched up temporarily, but Im wondering if I will get away with a smart repair, by removing light fixtures to get access. I dont want a respray of the roof. It is not immediatetly noticeable, you have to deliberately look on the roof, so hopefully when I come to trade in time no one will notice!!

The Lexus finish is so good on that any blemish seems to be noticable, especially in the darker colours. If I get some free time this week I'll try and get more quotes to compare against the £350 quoted for the full roof panel respray. The front bumper on the new IS is so flat and vertical it's also getting more than it's fair share of road rash, even though I try and leave sufficient gap to prevent it.

Just to complete the story, I've had two more quotes (one from Lexus) and they're both around £500. It's such a little dint, but both bodyshops say that the front and rear screens have to be removed to ensure the new paint coats terminate under the seals or the clear coat could lift.

Anyway, I have protected NC bonus so getting it repaired on my insurance. Just to prove every cloud has a silver lining, the Tint shop has knocked £100 off the tinting as the rear screen can be done whilst it's off the car :D
