Anyone complained to the dealer about excess brake dust? One of the guys on the US forum has mentioned a Lexus product bulletin which means anyone that has a complaint gets different pads fitted under warranty. This may of course only apply to pads on the 350 (if they are a different pad??), but I think I'll enquire anyway.

AFAIK 350 has bigger rotors than 250/220d, so the pads will be different too.

Brake dust is always problem on front wheels. You can use less dusty pads, but they are usually harder and the wear of rotor is increased.

Most prestige manufacturers use softer brake pads now a days to give better "feel" and to counter the "wooden" feel.

So they wear slightly quicker and hence the dust problems. I suppose it's gonna be worse on an Auto, as you can apply brakes earlier and harder due to little engine braking effect...

It's a real problem though, even on the manual diesel. I'm gonna ask too when I get a chance. I clean my alloys once a weeks with simple car shampers and water, and the knooks and crannies are beginning to get more and more difficult to clean.

I daren't use anything like wonder wheels incase the lacquer falls off!

It's no worse than on my previous cars - just there are too many spokes to clean between!

I use Turtle Wax brake dust barrier, works in the same way as the other products mentioned.

:offtopic:

I use the Turtle Wax Brake Dust Barrier too and I find it's a great product in preventing dust adhering in the first place as well as making it easier to clean off. However, my original question was on the generation of excessive dust by the OEM pads as originally fitted to the second generation IS, and whether anyone had benefited from the free replacement pad material apparently being offered to our American cousins as the result of a directive from Lexus HQ whenever anyone complains about excessive dusting.

Guess the answer is NO :D

Just to get back on topic with the IS250 brake pads, here's a copy of the formal TSIB revision notice I was talking about regarding complaints of excessive dust, and it has been revised to include the IS250.

As is noted you do not get something for nothing and you may therefore have to trade off less dust for slightly less friction....and probably a low speed squeak or two

My fault..try now as I've edited it.

Just spoken to Lexus Bristol and they don't know about it so have been asked to take a copy with me on my next visit...Some speculation about different pads for the US spec 250 :whistling: ..or more likely the UK just isn't a big enough market to justify the change out under warranty. The revision to add the 250 was only issued two days ago.
