Hi everyone does anyone know how I work out if I bought some alloys from America, what sort of charges I may incur from customs import duty vat exc:

The wheels would cost around £800 max

All tips would be most welcome.

When my wheels arrived from Japan I was contacted by the freight Company for 17.5% VAT plus 7% duty. As I'd already paid the importer I was a little upset, but a telephone call sorted it (at least he can claw back the VAT).

Re. your wheels ..that's not a bad price if it includes the shippng charge.

Roughly a third of £800 on top (inc handling charge, duty and tax) so about £200 on top easily. So total will be £1000.

HM customs and excise are over charging ********. I mean £18 limit before they take your arse for everything whilst the US and other places have a limit of $200...come on!!!

Only other way is for the exporter to declare it as a gift and under value it.
