Bet It Has Been Asked Before......

Recommended Posts

I did a test many years ago.

The ECU does adjust to the RON rating of the fuel - and I found that running on 97 RON did give the same (or very slightly better) mile to the £ as ordinary 95 RON, but also had the additional benifit of slightly more performance when needed.

But those comparisons were based on 80p and 85p a litre respectively, now with super at a £/l, it would be hard to say.

Effing hell Ian how much is petrol round your way - it's 92.9 for normal stuff and 96.9 for 99 RON around here - then again that might as well be pound thinking about it :(

Did actually pay 102.9 for VPower down in Telford last week :crying:

:o

That's a disgrace!

One thing I never get is that petrol is supposed to be a global commodity but the price changes 2 miles down the road never mind between countries - no wonder a lot of economists take the value of the Big Mac to work out how far your money will go in each country - at least they're the same price all over the country :o

I always tend to find that VPower gives the best economy, slightly better than Tesco's 99RON in my case anyway, that's also gonna be helped by the locations of the garages though, ie Shell is near the motorway and Tesco is a lot of town driving near me!

Petrol pricing really is stupid!!

It should go back to 70p like the good old days! (i say that but it was before i could even drive)

Crikey how old are you? I'm only 26 and when I started drivin it was 63p I remember years ago my mum moaning that it had went up to 40p, how good would that be! :D

I use tesco's 99ron super stuff, its 96.9p where I am, I must say I dont notice much difference over normal stuff but I'm scared to go back to it now in case I do notice it when changing the other way :D :hehe:

so guys as a new driver to a 51 reg is200, ive just been using regular unleaded in the car, but all this talk of vpower fuel and super is beginning to worry me.

I have an automatic so it drinks enough as it is, but If I begin to use vpower or the upgraded version to good old regular, will I see better milage performance, or is the only thing im going to notice is that my bank balance goes down quicker due to the high price of the specialist fuel.

thanks

To be honest like the guys say, if you use something like VPower then you will more than likely find that the higher cost is offset by you getting slightly better mpg.

You also then get the benefit of the cleaning agents that are in there that may not be in the standard fuel :)

Didn't realise that Colin, is there any point to the additives that they go on about being in the likes of Optimax and V-Power or is it all just the marketing guys making out you're getting extra when in reality it's just higher octane?

I remember when it went up to 74p a gallon, early 70's...there was out rage!

Mind you that was a days wages

Mine seemed to prefer certain "known" brands, especially when it was running in. Now it's just un-economical all of the time!
