To enable your home computer to function wirelessly, I would recommend either a:

USB wireless adaptor:

Or a PCI Wireless card:

The reason I am recommending D-Link is that they are excellent value for money and I have been using their products as work for several years and never had a problem.

The first option is your best bet if you are not technically minded with regards to computers.

Or, as a package, the following would be rather suitable:

All my wireless stuff is Netgear apart from a Belkin range extender which was real PITA to set up but was the only piece of kit I could find for the job. The extender covers the back garden and my shed. The PCMCIA card I have in my laptop (Netgear) auto switches to the access point that has the best signal.

For me Netgear all the way, you can pick up the same router I have on e-bay for about £35 now.

get a Linksys one, good stuff and not that expensive

Touch wood my D-Link one continues to work as good as it has done since I bought it 3-4 months ago. My liksys router which I payed more for went wrong, they couldnt resolve the issue and its taken me over 9 months to get a brand new sent to me!! Shocking aftersales support if you ask me!

Ironic this post appers here today, my router only turned up this afternoon after fighting like hell to a repl.one!!
