Lexus Vs Toyota Dealer Servicing

Recommended Posts

Been getting quotes from the local lexus and toyota dealers for the 60k service on my 2001 RX300.

(The previous dealer stamps (except first 2) are from toyota and the car drives like new)

Lexus want £590 - £680

Toyota want £250!

Other than having to have a yaris for the day whats the difference if there is any?

Cheers

John

Might put off future buyers by seeing a Toyota stamp in the book, but I suspect there would be no difference in the level of workmanship. A service is just a service.

Oh that's right, you wouldn't get the chance to sit in fancy leather seats, read the FT and have a cup of premium coffee whilst you wait to speak to the Lexus service advisor

Lexus use Toyota parts anyway and a lot of the RX bits are on Toyota cars (brakes etc). On my last service I paid £40.10 for them to open the glove box, pull out the "pollen" filter and stick a new filter paper in. At the local Toyota dealer this would have cost me £24.02 and taken two minutes of my time. As this figure includes output VAT and a decent profit for the dealer then the actual tade price of the paper mustn't be far off a tenner. How nice to be able to buy in at a tenner and sell out at forty quid ! No wonder the tiles are so shiny and there are papers and coffee !!

Lexus Dealer Stockport. The workshop service LEXUS and MAZDA.

So you get the same "mechanic/technician" working on Mazda's or Lexus. Only difference is £25 an hour!!!!

more for the Lexus.

We all bow down to the rubber stamp! I have bought a lot of 2nd.hand cars in the past and the MOST important thing is "Service History" I am quite happy to buy a car with GENUINE service history that has been carried out by a reputable service centre. You are likely to keep the car for at least 2 more years so selling it on again it is likely to be 5/6 years old.

Not many "Dealerships" sell 6 year old cars. They don't want them on their forecourts or showrooms So you are likely to sell privately anyway. I don't think OEM service stamps gain you that much value in the 2nd.hand market at that age of car.

Certainly for the first 4 years or up to 60K i would like to see Manufacturers stamps but after that so long as it was serviced at the right intervals and by a good garage and with plenty of receipts then I would sooner save the premium asked by a rubber stamp.

Changing brake pads ,discs and bushes and jobs like that can be DIY for those handy with a few spanners or taken to a decent garage that won't rip your back teeth out. Just keep all the paperwork and parts receipts to prove the job was done. What the Main Dealers charge for those type of jobs is criminal.

Well thats my opinion and thats what I do. If somebody wanted to buy my car If I was selling it then I would produce all the History. Lexus main dealer for 5 years then the specialist garage I have used for years. I would also invite them to contact the garage and verify that all paperwork and MOTs (same garage) was correct. If they didn't want to pay the price I asked for the car then they would'nt be driving away in it! And they should'nt be coming to look at it if they they think they are going to knock a fortune off it.

I'll go with the toyota dealer - can't believe the price difference though its scandalous!

You are lucky Toyota man will do it. My local Toyota dealer in York told me they were not allowed to service Lexus, but I was allowed to go to any other reputable garage to get it done!! He recommended one down the road!!!

Apparently it is EU regulations that servicing can be done at any good garage.

My nearest Lexus dealer is about 15miles from me whereas Toyota is about 3miles and I also assumed, being mainly Toyota parts, it'd be no problem. Admittedly, they said they could service it but they advised against it to preserve its resale value, etc. but other than that they also said that they're under instructions to charge the same price as what Lexus main dealer would charge.

I'm not too concerned about the distance itself to Lexus Newcastle, its just that I'm in Sunderland and it would mean negotiating either the Tyne Tunnel or Tyne Bridge during rush hour and I'm not fancying that!

 I wonder what trading standards or even the competition commission would make of a Toyota dealer saying that he must charge Lexus dealer prices because you have a Lexus. I am sure that one of the car programmes would be interested in such a statement.
