Need A Favour....

Recommended Posts

Is there anyone in the London / Essex area who can lend me a hard disk caddy ?

It's the normal size, 5.25" .... I sold some hard disks, and just need to access them to take data off / format them !

Will need it for one day only ... and don't really want to buy one !

Anyone help on this one ?

Cheers.

You dont need a caddy just to access a disk - remove the lid from your machine and simply rest the disk on a folded over piece of paper and connect the leads to it in the normal way. It doesn't need to be bolted into anything to work...

Guys, yse sorry I meant to say 3.5"

I am aware that I can just plug it into my machine and slave it etc.

However, I don't want to start taking hdd's out / in to my machine as there is no more space to access the drive in concern, then copy the data onto the other drive !

Hence, the need for a caddy.

I do'nt really want to plug in different IDE's anyway ... all my drive are on SATA and I don't want Vista to become upset !

Cheers.

When you say caddy, you you mean one of those that allows you to plug into a USB port or something, whilst keeping the disk completely external to the machine?

You may have a point with the IDE - some motherboards always default to using IDE in preference to sata when it comes to the boot device. Something to be aware of, anyway...

Is your cd-rom really on a sata connection? Since you only want to grab data and then blow the old disk away, I'd still be tempted to just plug it whilst it's hanging out the side of the machine though. You'll know straightaway whether it's going to upset Vista or not by watching the boot screen as it starts up. If Vista fires up, it'll be fine, if it starts booting off the old one then you need to play with the BIOS a bit!
