Guys,

I am thinking about selling my IS250 and buying a RX400h, I need something a bit more practical and do not want to give up my Lexus quality, so I thought the 400h would be a good choice.

Not sure what to put mine on the market at though...

Any ideas on what this is worth private sale?

Or would it be better just to chop it in?

It's about £30k of motor if it's an auto. You can buy pre-registered 07 plates for around £18k and no miles. So for private an 06 I would have said maybe

We've got a '56 ex demo for 28K and then slapped a set of 18's on which bumped it up.

With that in mind I'd go for 25K.........

The 220d is just fine - no particular issues, fuel economy excepted, with it at all. It's the economy that prompted me to go for another diesel over the 2.5 v6 and forgo automatic transmission (which I wanted this time too). Given that the efficiency of the 250 is practically the same as the 220 I may as well go for what I wanted in the first place.

This is off the Whatcar? site - and I have always found ity to be pretty accurate:

Dealer £20,945

Private £19,645

Part exchange £19,095

Trade £18,395

Cost new £25,488

Now you must bear in mind that you are chopping it in to a Lexus dealer, and you should add metallic (£another 150) and MLS (£another £750) - if it's an auto, add another £1k ('cos they are still short in supply in comparison to manuals).

So - cost to change is the key thing. Remember that an RX400h shouldn't cost you more than £40k. Even for an SEL which retails for £45oddk, or take £3-5k off list price...add another £1k to your PEX and I would be expecting £21k minimum PEX as a starting point or with £18k as a price to change against a new 400h SE-L.

If you really want the extra space, have you considered a GS450h? They are fantasic, and almost as big inside as an RX with better handling? The RX does lurch a bit when you brake, or take fast corners.

The GS is also much faster and probably more econimical...???

Hi - Just heard that the new Lexus RX range will be out late this year/early next year.Maybe worth waiting then? I dont have further details, the dealer mentioned in passing.

The boot is the biggest drawback on the GS450h, so if it's storage space then you need to look alsewhere...

Having said that just the drive will make you smile, especially when it can hit 0-60 in less than 6 seconds...

Price wise it'll depend on the model and whether you're fussed about new or 2nd hand... but they are similar overall.
