Integrated Cell Phone With Navi

Recommended Posts

Lexus indicates that their new cell phone system for vehicles with navi, will be available this next month, at a cost of $1800 USD without the actual phone. The phone can only be a Nokia model 6310i which sells for about $179.00 USD but is discounted to $130.00.

I obtained a dealer copy of the features, but they do not appear to be as advanced as Mercedes: Phone book is transferred to the navi system, 250 numbers. (Phone holds 500). There does not appear to be incoming caller ID on the navi screen, just touch button for dialing. Voice activation for dialing appears to require touching a button first, which is located inside the glovebox and not on the steering wheel. Incoming call either mutes or lowers the radio, and voices come from rear speakers (probably to eliminate feedback).

Anyone have any comments regarding features and/or pricing?

How can I get details of the Lexus car kit for the 6310i? Will it be one month for UK market too?

Rodders..... if they get the touch screen functions right, i.e. dailing, address book and caller ID, then no other car kit will compare.

I have read the manual and after doing so, have ordered the phone system. I do not see anything that will indicate Caller ID. Mercedes has this feature on their integrated system, and also displays the number on the dash where the speedometer is located so you don't have to take your eyes off the road. Nice Touch. I think the system will be very good, but I don't think it will be the best thing currently available. Hope I am wrong. Will let you know when mine comes in and is installed.

Will you be able to dial, answer/end a call, adjust volume, mute, etc. on the Navi touch screen?

Is there a screen transition to 'phone' mode when the phone rings.

Please confirm this is suitable for use with a Nokia 6310 since I have details from the Lexus Canada site of a similar system but using Motorola, more of a standard in the USA.

My understanding is that there will be another set of three buttons added to the steering wheel on either the left or right side where the4 existent buttons are. One side will have six and the other three. Depressing the appropriate button will cause certain features to take place without the necessity of touching the navi screen, including voice command.

The ONLY phone that this is designed to work with is the Nokia 6310i. No other models.

The features on the navi screen are called up either from the screen or from one of the buttons.

When the phone is inserted into the handset in the armrest, the phonebook within is transferred to the navi screen. No idea about caller ID as yet.
