Is200 Car Stereos

Recommended Posts

Im a newbie so don't flame me lol...need some help with lexus is200 (99) car stereos. Ive already bought a facia for my lexus so i can fit an after market stereo, but i don't really know too much of the ins and outs of the electrics (infact i know nothing lol), but im after something like this..

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-SONY-MEX-BT5000-...1QQcmdZViewItem

No doubt, if i do decide to get this then the incar 6CD changer will no longer be needed right?

Would something like this would work in my car before i decide to buy it, and also what should i look out for and what not to get. Be nice to know what all you lot have instead of the default stereo, this way i know it will work in my car too. Reason im replacing the default one is cos i really want to be able to play mp3s off CD, may even find a stereo that plays mp3s on dvd (giga dvd i think its called), maybe even usb, ipod support. So yeah any help or advice would be cool!

TIA!

I know very little about the sound systems, however, I know that the SE and Sport Model IS200 both have an amp at the side of the glove box, which the S model doesn't have, so this has to be taken into consideration when replacing your Lexus stereo for an aftermarket one

buy the £15 facia kit and ur sorted + £5 toyota iso cable

if ur SE or sport model think u need to buy another cable to by pass the amp but still do able

with that headunit i think u can even play mp3s off ur mobile using the Bluetooth connection

Yeah i got the SE, so i will have to buy an iso cable to bypass the amp right? i'll search around on eBay for it.. Yeah with the Bluetooth u can pair it with the mobile and play mp3s from mobile to stereo, but i won't be using it for that at all, as im only after something i can play mp3s from Cds or possibly dvds..

  • 2 weeks later...

Right, ive bought the facia, bypass lead, headunit and a seperate 7" screen, but the problem is finding someone to fit it, as i don't think i would be able to do it myself (can't find the post that contains images showing how to take apart the center console/dash, be nice if someone can find it for me to look at). Lexus won't do it cos its not their product and theres no garage here thats fitted a headunit to a lexus before (or if they have i don't see them using google/yellow pages). Can someone recommend a trust worthy in car audio specialist near Canterbury?

hmmm as far as i know the lead rob (fluff) or Russ mentioned is what you would need, and in fact i have tested this lead on my system (to integrate my nav bypass lead too it) maybe id suggest your audio man does not know what hes doing.

Story so far.....garage bloke couldn't do it as he says that the connection isn't right etc etc..on the plus side hes taken the console out and didn't charge me anything for it. Found an audio specialist in canterbury thats worked on a few is200s, told them about what i have, facia, bypass lead (iso cable on the way if its needed at all!) and they said its fine, but last time they did it to an is200 they changed the rear speakers (something to do with the lexus rear speakers have built in amps in the speakers..something along them lines) from stock to an aftermarket one..which requires rewiring. they haven't said anything about the front ones yet so i asume they are fine, so im expecting a bill of around £400 for 2 6x9 rear speakers, installment of headunit, 7" screen, labour+VAT. So expensive to do something that most cars only charge £50-£80 for.

..the story continues..

...Well its done..stereo in, screen in...and they used the bypass cable that i provided (which everyone on here swears by..), but at a cost...£220 including a pair of pioneer 380w 6x9 for the rear (£80) and i had to walk an hr to work...but at least the job is done, but now when i get enough cash im going to upgrade the front speakers and tweeters and an amp. I've messed about with it a bit and found that the front ones start to distort after a certain volume as expected compared with the rear... so no doubt this will be on going lol

I swear my car is clean when i took that yet it looks dusty!?!? lol

Anyway..looks like i might sell the bits left over...lexus amp, 6cd player, rear speakers and a iso cable all in perfect condition ;)

Ok, been searching on eBay for a while now to see how much my left over parts are worth, but no joy. Is it cos noone ever wants these or cos they never go wrong so noone needs to replace them lol. Remember these are used items, but how much are they worth? is200 2001 amp and rear speakers. Also i think its an amp, just found it in my boot after the tech has finished with my car..

Is it even worth my time to try and get rid of these? Also found new scratches on the side of the console (which i can;t get rid of, may use sand paper to smooth off the scratch), im always aware of the console could get scratched easily so i always cut my nails (yes im a bloke, but still for the sake of the lexus! lol)
