Hi LexBoy, not sure of the law perhaps you could contact Citizens Advice. It might help if you explain what this is in relation to. Have you paid a deposit on a car and now want it back?

I put a deposit on a new IS before they were released but it was on the understanding that I could get it back if I wasn't happy when I saw the car in the flesh. Later on the dealer started to pressure me into confirming the spec the car, still before I saw it but if I had done that I wouldn't get a refund of the deposit if I later did not want the car. At that point I asked for a refund.

Thanks for the replies :winky:

I paid a deposit.. and we discoursed a delivery date of the second of July 07

the car is at the dealers…. but they are now blaming the DVLA. saying there is a backlog as regards to my private plate

I have purchased five cars(new) over the years and have never had a problem transferring my plate.. which I have owned for 10 years

It's probably too late, as the paperwork will be in. However, I too have had the odd skirmish with a dealer (not Lexus) blaming the DVLA - ti's obvious that they have probably forgotten to do it.

Normally, the dealers employee a courier who specialises in visiting the local DVLA offices (which are now not so local) to get the paperwork done. I believe it may have changed and Cherished transfers have to be done by post. That's what my Nissan dealer said when we bought the 2nd car. Lex was no problem at all 6 months prior to the Nissan.

Good luck - best to call the DVLA yourself and see if you're being told something inaccurate!!

Nice one Bazza -

LexBoy - call the DVLA - if it is likely to take too many weeks, talk to the dealer and see if:

1) they can give you a courtesy car - Lexus dealers are known for doing this sort of thing. Mine agreed to loan me a ar for the weekend if My Lex was late for my cousins Wedding...didn't have to 'cos mine arrived just in time from Japan

2) they can register your car as an '07 at no extra cost (worth asking, you don't ask, no way you get...) so that you can make the neighbours know and be sure that you have a brand new car ;-) and then transfer to the PP asap

PS - posts crossed - OK...just a few more days...probably worth waiting...you know it'll be worth it...
