Locking Doors Without Setting Alarm

As we have recently purchased a dog, we have found that if we lock the dog in the car (Ls400 mkIII) she sets the alarm off (obviously), so I was just wondering whether there is a way of just locking the doors, but not arming the alarm system!?

Mine is a MkII 1993 but when I use the key it arms the alarm as well. I checked this by locking the door with the key with the window open and then reaching inside to open the door. Beep, Beep, Beep.

May be wrong, but don't recall my Ser 3 doing that. Ser 4 doesn't.

Thanks a lot =) I have tried the various methods you helpful people have suggested and found that just using the key works.
