Changes In Is250 From New?

Recommended Posts

Just wondering if the IS250 SE-L with autobox changes over time (ie driving feel etc) from new?

BTW still no rattles!

From experience over the 2 years I've had my SE-L auto, it only gets better...what are you expecting?...No rattles from new either.

"It only gets better" what exactly do you mean?

Not really expecting any changes.

The whole powertrain appears to run smoother, maybe it's just run in at 13K miles. The owners of the 220D report an increase in smoothness and better mpg after the cars have completed around 10K miles. Bit difficult to say with mine as I've changed the intake slightly and added a more free flowing exhaust...if you believe the hype adding 6 hp and 13.77 hp respectively at 5,800 rpm.

My 250 SE-L Auto is coming up to one year old and the only significant change I would say is a gradual improvement in the consumption figures, but that might be me getting used to driving it more smoothly. It certainly does encourage such driving. On a cross-country run from Bedford to Leamington Spa yesterday, with a fair bit of overtaking on two-lane country roads, the journey average was 36 m.p.g.

I can only concur with the other members above. Mine is coming up on 12 months old with 15.5k on the clock

the transmittion is far smoother than new and the MPG has steadily increased to average around

30 urban and 38 on motorways, i once even got it up to 56.4 on a run back from Manchester

with a strong following wind and coasting down hill.

And still no rattles. only one minor irritation the air vents in the centre console, the left hand

one has developed a fault and now only moves horizontally the vertical adjuster seems to

have come adrift somewhere inside. I'll wait until the next service to have it fixed. No great shakes.

Paintwork is my only bugbear, the bonnet looks like its been through a war zone. Stone chips

everywhere but i do put in alot of motorway miles so its not unexpected, just a little more

more than i had anticipated.

Now done 15k & get c.32mpg.Drive train is super-smooth & only the Bumper/Lip Spoiler has minor-chips due too high-speed Continental driving despite ensuring I keep a healthy gap between the car in front until he pulls over!

So mechanically the auto gear changes become smoother?

Hardly noticeable, I'd say it's the V6 that's smoother and you feel it through the autobox. I've got into the habit of knocking it out of auto and using the paddle shifters for a more spirited drive around the twisty B roads we have in the Cotswolds and it really flies (doesn't do a lot for mpg though). Rev limiter kicks in around 6,500 rpm and you get a refusal and audible warning if you try and drop a gear at similar rpm. After the adrenalin rush it's also nice to flick it back into auto for a nice relaxing drive. :D
