Clutch Noise

I apologise if this subject has been discussed previously, however I am new to LOC, having recently purchased a Silver IS200 Sport. Since owning it I have noticed a squeak coming from the underside of the car when I depress the clutch pedal. Is this something terminal, bearing in mind she has covered some 100,000 miles, albeit she has FSH'....

mine has the same problem, from what i can remember reading on previosu posts, its nothing to worry about, i cant remember the name of the actual part put i think you get it replaced when its time for a new clutch.

im sure someone will be along who has more knowledge

Thanks for that, i'm glad i'm not alone with the clutch problem. A local garage has suggested that the noise is the release bearing, and advised me to get it replaced ASAP along with the clutch.... :o

As already said, you have a noisey clutch release bearing, no need to get it changed.

If your clutch is slipping then make sure the release bearing is changed as well as the clutch cover and pressure plate.

i've got the same problem....

im not too worried about it, and tend to play with it when i have my windows down and waiting at a set of lights... can make it squeak along with Radio 1 :P

OT: why the nick change Rob? although, if im honest, im struggling to remeber the old one, imruff.... fluffruff or something!

firstly does the squeek happen only when the engine is running? if so then it is the clutch release bearing

I can hear it when switched off as well as when the engine is running

I do not think its the clutch release bearing, if the noise is there when the car is switched off? Was there not a post about the pivot the pedal is on, that makes the noise?

If the noise squeekes and stops, even if the pedal is held in, or does it with the engine off, then I agree it doesn't sound like a realease bearing to me either, more like a pivot somewhere or dry cable (unless it is a hydraulic clutch of course)

the best way i can think of describing mine is like a creaking door.

it happend when the engine is on and off, it only squeeks whilst pressing the clutch down. the noise then stops once the clutch is pressed and only makes a noise again once the pedal is then moved again.

ok - the clutch is hydraulic, so no cable etc and from the clutch cylinder there is a small push rod going to a pivot arm, i have not looked at the install but you might be able to get access and lubricate that area

I'll have a look tomorrow. Thanks mate...

I took my car to a Lexus specialist in Norwich who advised me that the noise from the clutch was the pivot arm going into the gearbox. He removed the cover and lubricated it, and hey presto....no more noise. For the time being anyway :D

good news mate, how long did that take to do? mite have to get it done myself

About 30 minutes all in. The mechanic finished up putting some form of clamp on the pivot arm, thus restricting movement of the clutch pedal to its normal position. The squeak on my IS200 was evident whilst the engine was running. and switched off. The noise /sqeak is no longer evident. Fingers Crossed :)

No it doesn't

If your restricting the clutch returning to its normal position then that would be like riding the clutch surely ?!!!

Maybe he's just after your £450 when the clutch is worn out

Mine squeaked when pressing the pedal and it was a dry bushing somewhere underneath I am sure. Its a few years ago now but I am sure I sprayed dry lube on it to cure it.

Try doing a search for "squeeky and clutch"

Get that clamp thing looked into !!

perhaps I didn't explain it very well. He only used the clamping bracket so that he was able to gain access to the rod/pivot. The clamp was removed once he had gained full access to it. He stated that the hole where the pivot arm enters the gearbox is very small, hence he was unable to lubricate it properly without clamping it off. The clutch operates normally with no squeak at present. Think i got there in the end....
