A bit of Assistance needed if anybody can Help.

My Drivers Seat on my 93 LS400 has gone wrong internally!!!

When I move the back of the seat Forward or Back, the Offside of the Seat moves back and for, but the Nearside of the Seat will not budge and the seat actually twists on movement.

Any Ideas??? I removed the back panel and the Rod that goes across the back appears to move but not the metal cog that it seems to be connected to

I ain't got a clue, asked Lexus which only said they could send me a Diagram as it looks like the Starship Enterprise in there HAHA

Any Help would be appreciated, and the expense too of course :crybaby:

Regards

The end of the rod is splined and over time rips the connecting splines out of the socket on the cog.

A while ago somebody posted about glueing the splines together with Araldite, but (mines gone too) mine never worked with Araldite, but luckily mine broke in a position which is quite comfortable for me, so I just ignore it.

The rod is very high tensile steel so drilling and bolting it is not (for me) an option - I blunted 3 drills trying!

If you come up with a solution let me know!

Not much help I know - sorry

Dave

Remove the seatback,

You will see that the plastic covered shaft which is supposed to connect to a spindle but has disconnected.

All you have to do is first get the seatback level. Then insert pliers from the rear, grab the shaft where it is supposed to connect (not the plastic cover) and push it back in...

Done.

Hi,

On mine I modified an idea from the clublexus site. This can be done without removing the seat.

1. Remove Back Cover.

2. On mine the splines on the rod that connect both sides of the seat had worn out.

3. I used my power drill to drill progrerssively larger holes in the centre of the rod until it split.

4. Took the remainder of the the rod ("pipe recline", in Lexus language new ones are £13.

5. Cut the ends of now two rods so that you have clean ends and fresh splines (the splines go throughout the length of rod).

6. Use standard plumbing copper pipe 15mm diameter about 8". length

7. Drill holes to take 3mm bolts , you use the copper pipe to join the two parts of the aluminium pipe together.

8. You bolt one side first connect to the right hand side of back of drivers seat,

9. The other side is slide inside the copper pipe ,you slide this out and connect to the left hand side of seat , align holes and put in second bolt.

I also found that seat had expanded slightly so a new replacement rod would not be long enough so this method allows you to extend the length of the rod 5-10mm.

I have some pictures if anyone needs them.

This was on a 1990 LS400.

Good Luck
