Rubbing Sound When Turning Left

Hello,

Can anyone help me on this. I get a rubbing noise when I turn left. The noise doesnt happen when I turn right or when manouvering slowly. It sounds like a light metal on metal sound. I had a look at the wheels and the wheel arches but can t see anything worn.

Any ideas?

Did you by any chance have the back brake discs replaced.

No but im pretty sure it only started after i had the back tyres changed. I checked the rear pads and theres loads on them.

Would be worth checking the brake backing plate to see how much clearance around the disc there is. If it is very close, you can bend them about a bit to increase the clearance.

I did notice that plate was very close, maybe taking the wheel off and back on caused it to touch.

I had this problem exactly as you describe. A replacement hub fixed it...!!

(The hub was from a previous poor repair and was apparently warped. I was eating discs for breakfast!)

Looks like for me its the bottom ball joint.

130euro each with the arm.

Only one side is gone but im gonna replace the two.

The MOT did mention the bottom ball joints so they may need changing. It sounds like its coming from the back though.

I found ball joints for £32 + VAT but thats without the arm. Does the arm have to be changed?

The backing plate on the drivers side rear disc is loose to so ill check that first.

Funny I have had this problem for about a year now......... Very anoying especially when on smooth ground as it's more apparent

Numerous visits to diffrent mechanics and none of them have been able to find a cause its recently passed its M.O.T with no mention of any problems however they did mention the discs were a bit warped and would need replacing soon. Weather this is related i'm not sure

Parf if you get to the bottom of this could you keep us updated

and what is your reasoning behind that statement? unless the arm is damaged somehow there is no need to replace it. In comparison its like saying well the tyre is worn so i will replace the alloy wheel also

I agree with Rob if the bottom balljoint is the same setup as the GS300. The balljoint is bolted to the bottom of the hub and then connected to the arm via the balljoint on the GS, if it is the same on the IS then there is nothing to be gained from changing the arm.

Ok im wrong iv just found out there is no need to change the arm my bad :)

All i need is two bottom balljoints.

Get someone to have a look at your car a mate of mine is a machanic and

a bit of oil on the balljoints amd the noise is gone.

But i still nedd to get them replaced monday.

A motor factors in Swansea call Normag quoted me £32 + VAT for the ball joints. They said they could get them next day too from a jap parts specialist.

Do you need a special tool to press them in and out.

Ill get the ball joints changed and try to secure the brake disc guard and let you know if it goes away.

The odd thing is it sounds like its coming from the back but only happens when i turn left so im well confused.

well for me its coming from the front

passenger side but both sides need

new ball joints.
