Abs Light After Lower Ball Joint Replacement.

Hi, I made a big mistake and got a friendly mechanic neighbour to replace a lower ball joint. Now I have three warning lights on the dash ABS, VSC, and another. The neighbour says to bring the car back round in the morning and he'll have another look at it. I'm worried he will make it worse (he is a bit fond of his hammer). I think I should bite the bullet and book the car into a decent garage tomorrow and have it looked at, if the ABS sensor has been damaged has anyone any idea of prices for replacement? Is my local Lexus dealer the only option for the parts? I'm really angry with myself for being so stupid and trying to cut costs. :crybaby:

New sensor ordered, getting fitted next week by a local Toyota specialist. I think I'll get the timing belt done at the same time as there is no mention of it being replaced in the service book. On a more positive note the car feels much better since the ball joint has been replaced, less vibrating under braking etc, I'm going to get the 4 wheel alignment done on Monday so the car should back to full health by the end of the week :)

After feeling vibrations on the steering, and noticed steering tilting to the left on braking, I took my GS 300 SE to my local mechanic to replace driver side ball joint (the alignment chaps said I could not do an alignment except the ball joint was fixed). He did a lot of hammering to replace with a new ball joint. Now I have three warning lights on the dash ABS, VSC, and VSC OFF…

Can anyone help with a diagnosis? Does it mean the ABS sensor/wire is damaged? But he only removed a metal and replaced with another one, no wiring or sensors that may hav been touched!

If the ABS sensor has been damaged has anyone any idea of prices for replacement? Where to buy them (website, Spares shop) apart from lexus dealer. Is my local Lexus dealer the only option for the parts, or can anyone suggest a cheaper garage who are Toyota specialist? I live by the A13 London Essex. Savo, WIM, Monster, Anyone can you advise on the above queries/ your experience with this problem. PLEASE HELP!!!

i damaged 1 strand of the multicore wire that the ABS sensor uses and it threw out a fault on my IS200... best this was a new unit from lexus was £80 and all it needed was to be clipped in at one end and screwed in the other... then driven for about 100 meters and all the lights went away.

i believe that it measures resistance so anything that changes will make it apprear as a fault..
