From your post, it seems that you do NOT have a master key? Have I got this right? If so, then your Lexus dealer is right, you will need a new ecu, locks and keys. You can only add another key if you have the original 3 button master key.

Welcome to LOC btw.

the key i have now is worn out & takes an age for it to unlock etc now, i would rather set the thing on fire than spend £2000 on a new set of keys

lock/unlock is done from the remote key, are you sure that the Battery isn't knackered in the key?

I wouldn't make comments like setting the car on fire on a public forum...comments like that have a nasty habit of coming back to haunt you...

hi you can get your key cloned by a locksmith or even your ecu flashed.

I work as a mobile autolocksmith in hull and do many lexus and toyota with only 1 key and not the master key.

I have also done a toyota and lexus which had all his keys stolen and i supplied him 3 x keys (1x master key/remote) 1 x submaster also remote and a valet key also remote for only £600.00 and you dont need to change your locks

i would advice you not to change the ecu etc because thats when problems start to happen.

If you need any help or advice drop me an email to gazzaull22@hotmail.com

Thanks

Gary

P.S i hope this helps and saves you 2k

Can't tell you how annoying it is to learn from a Lexus dealership that it would cost you over £2000.00 to resolve this problem. More so when it is a smarmy adviser who can't help but say...'it is a Lexus after all!'. I am not really a fan of people who continuously quote the same.

Annoying as it maybe, they are all correct, it would cost a LEXUS dealership that much to rectify. The reason for this excessive cost is due to the integrated immobiliser in the ECM (Engine Management Module), not even Lexus have the facilities to code new keys to a vehicle (from 1998 onwards) if both the Master keys have been lost.

That said, there is NO reason for someone to go to a reputable locksmith/electronic automotive specialist to resolve. gazzull22 is therefore correct. You would need to reflash the ECM and have keys programmed to it.

I can recommend you someone who reflashes the ECM for a ridiculously cheap price but he is based in Warrington, Cheshire. He has been programming Lexus/Toyotas for 25 years and 15 of them years with Toyota. He is a Toyota enthusiast and quotes much less than the quote in the previous threads. PM me if you would like the contact details!

Changing ECM is too much of a hassle, don't do it.

For now, I would change the Battery in your key, it is relatively easy to do - just need a very small phillips screwdriver. The type that would allow you to change a screw in spectacles. You can buy a cheap Battery from a local automotive store (no more than £2).

Hope this helps...

What can i say, thanks for all the help with my problem, i shall be in the need of getting 2 keys done, have tried a new Battery but the fob it's self is just worn out, if it means having the ECM reflashed then im happy with that.

Once again thanks for all your input & wishing you all a very drunk new year (dont drive in the morning tho

Hi Guys

I have the same problem.

I have a Toyota Rav 4 2002. No master key but still have the valet key ( and the case for the master key, the middle fell out and was lost)

I need the emc reflashed and 2 new master keys programed. I live in Plymouth but as I have the Valet key I can drive it to someone to do this.

Couple of websites based in the US saying that I can take the emc out and send it to them to reflash but i would rather just get it all done and dusted. Anyone know any companies or people that can do this for me ?

Can buy TOYOTA / LEXUS IMMO IMMOBILISER REFLASH KEYS SOFTWARE on eBay and eeprom programmer but i'm not really sure on how to do this so would prefer someone with some knowledge to do it for me.

Any help would be massively appreciated.
