Stock Turbos

My mk2 aristo has the basic performance mods eg. fmic, boost contoller, s/s exhaust, de cat etc

It was booked in yesterday at Thor Racing for dyno/boost controller set up etc

The boys at Thor after spending some time on the car came to the conclusion my stock turbos are on their way out and its only safe to run them at 0.7 or 0.8 bar.

The old beast has just clocked 100,000 so i guess its to be expected.

So...basically i am now looking to replace the turbos or get them hybridised.

What do you guys think would be the best option for me and the most cost effective?

Ps. Great day at Thor yesterday, very helpful staff, gave us a good look around and a bit of an education, lol

you can go big single...............need management get loads of BHP but more lag.............

turbo dynamics can rebuild the stock ones with stell internals to give about 500 bhp..........need management

drop me an email may have an option for you

depends what your after, soem people want/liek single turbo setup. others like the twin setup.

Seems major factor in coverting to single is getting it done right else your just opeing up pandoras box.

If your sticking with twins then deffo hybrids, are the stock aristo tubbies ceramic.

I'm now actually thinking about going single but nothing extreme, i'm looking into getting a single t61 turbo kit, upgrading the injectors and getting an aftermarket ecu.

Instead of going through the cost and hassle of getting my turbos hybridised i thought i might as well go down this route :shifty:

Glad you are sorted mate. I don't suppose you happen to have any pics of your car and your interior do you? Gord said you had some all singing all dancing boost controller/monitoring thingy that I wouldn't mind having a look at ;)

Did you get Jspec Turbos or the UK Turbos? I understand that the Aristo has the lighter Ceramic Jap Turbos rather then the steel UK Turbos which are stonger but more laggy...... (I have been reading up.......... ;) )

From what I have been reading going single seems to not be a great idea for a fast street car apart from the motorway. Yes its MUCH faster top end, but I personally wouldn't want to loose the low-down/mid-range grunt (especailly now that I am so used to it in the diesel).

My eventual plan I think (and this is a long while into the future since I am not even at BPU yet!) is to get Turbo Technics to Hybridise the standard Turbos. They claim that that allows them to run 1.5bar! Obviously engine bay cooling etc would be a major issue, but it could lead to around 480bhp. If it is reliable is another thing..........but I have plenty of time to plan what I want to do.

EDIT: I was quite excited at the price too :£675 + Vat for the Supra Twin Turbo, until I realised that was for EACH Turbo! :tomato:

Twin turbo better setup for auto/road driving.

Singles definitely laggy and crap power band for the road.

Auto makes it worse (lag).

Again, Pete @ Thor should recommend, but going stock twins is kewl. Although I'd buy brand new ones if I could.
