Camshaft Belt Wears Prematurely

I've been informed by a reputable Lexus dealer that the camshaft belt on the old shape IS200 wears prematurely and Lexus are aware of this and provide a free replacement or offer a discount when buying new one. Has anyone heard about this before ? Thanks

Is your car still under the manufacturers warranty? If it is and the timing belt is failing/failed prematurely then Lexus would probably foot the bill (parts & labour) for a replacement timing belt. If its normal 'wear and tear', then Lexus have no responsibility to change your timing belt F.O.C.

How old is your car? and which dealer told you that you may be able to get a free/discounted timing belt replacement?

Kam - i'm gonna have to check if it is still under warranty but it was registered March 2002. Well someone told my father and he passed the info on to me.

Sabrina,

From what you are saying, it sounds as if your car is out of warranty, so you will have to pay for the timing belt change. I think all Lexus cars have a warranty upto 3 years/60,000 miles, whichever comes first. Your car is almost 6 years old now, so it needs a timing belt change, regardless of how many miles the car has done.
