Hi All,

New to this site, don't know how I haven't found it before. So Hi all....

Ok here goes, I have an IS200 V plate (00) beautiful car, 159'000k on the clock (I know lots of miles) Now here's the problem I recently took my car to be serviced (Not at a main dealer) did a great job, however within 2 week the coil and plugs had failed on me, so I take it back work was done and I collected my car Yesterday, drove it 2 mile down the road and the Temperature gauge went sky high.... cold air blowing out of the heaters, so its now back at the same garage that did the service and the coil, Guy rung me this aft and said I had a hole in the radiator and he could recon it for £175.00.. seems a lot to me, but thats why I'm on here asking advice from you guys.

I was seriousloy thinking of trading it in for an 03' IS200 in March, now that day could be here a little sooner than i would have wished for.

Any help appriciated.

hello matey welcome to the club :D you can get a radiator on eBay for less heres one item number 120216277351

Sounds a bit fishy that you take your car in for a service then things start to go wrong?? have you had a look at the radiator to see where the hole is??

probably nothing but just sounds a bit funny to me and hope you get it sorted mate, enjoy the club... :D

Thanks for your reply Aztecbandit1,

Seems funny to me too :tsktsk: Really pished off me... so far I have spent £340.00 with this guy now he's wanting another £175.00....

Going to print off the E Bay item you posted and show it to the "Mechanic" (who seems to not have a clue what he is doing as he "had it running for 2/3 hours before I picked it up" yeah course you did mate.

Really interested in this other IS200 which is also on E Bay (Motors)and looking at some of the cars on here I reckon some serious mods will be done should I decide to buy it.

Thanks again Aztec

1ST of all welcome to the L.O.C.

As for the problems with the aftermath of the service, all sounds very fishy. Have you used this garage before? My brother had issues with a Renault main dealer until i paid them a visit. Sounds to me that there trying to extort more money out of you.

As Aztechbandit1 has correctly stated, view the EBay item provided. To recon an existing radiator for £175 on a Lexus IS200 is an average(ish) price. But the question is how well will they do the job? They may just put radiator block into the system or try patching the hole with a poxy resin and give you the bill and car back.

Changing over radiators on a 200 isn't difficult so grab a recon unit or exchange it if poss?

Good luck and keep us informed along the way....

Evening Neal,

The garage where I have too the car has recently opened with a neighbour of mine being the manager, I often saw him in his drive working away on cars, all cars just not an IS200. (He won't be touching it again!!!

Going to the garge tomorrow as I want to see this hole, and to show him the new priced radiator that Aztec so kindly found for me.

Seriously thinking about changing the car to the 03' plate one, the one I have now has been fantastic and I can't believe someone is butchering her.....

There's a few on ebay matey so have a search and you might find one better priced as the one i used was the first one i found?

:D

You inspect it and make sure your happy before you proceed with any further work or if indeed it does need changing. I take it you like the 200 series hence the upgrade to a 03 plate. Me PERSONALLY i'd venture out a bit and buy a different Lex as there are many to choose from. Again Chris this is personal preference. I have owned a 200, 300, 430 (old shape) 430 (new shape) and my current 250.

Each to your own though Chris. 200 still a really nice shape with plenty of mods available,

I LOVE the is200 so i'm going to stick with it hopefully this one 320217484676. low mileage and plenty of scope to modify, I will take up your advice though neal and Aztec and look around before I buy, however my priority at the mo is my little baby thats sat in a cold garage all alone.

Cheers guys.

Welcome to the LOC sorry to hear about the trouble you've been having but hopefully you'll get it all sorted.

Before you buy any car on eBay i'd post the advert on here and let everyone have a look as there are a few dodgy cars on eBay and the guys on here are pretty good at noticing errors

Hi guys,

quick update on my IS200, Picked it up Friday Evening, guy at garage had put some Radweld in, touch wood its running ok, and he only charged me a tenner, just going to take it steady with her for a while.

SP)

Can I just say thanks to everyone who has posted a reply THANKS.... and don't you guys worry If this baby is meant to be there will be some pics on here of her...
