Collected my brand new IS 220d Sport this morning (the door sticker says 220SE!). Black with black interior.

Absolutely delighted. Surprised that it had a full tank of fuel, I probably paid for it in the delivery charge.

I had a sport diesel for a good test drive and was happy with it. Having driven other diesels I think this one is very quiet, and if it intrudes into the cabin the audio will blow it away. Having ordered the car, got mighty depressed with all the comments about fuel economy and 5th injector issues. Still my last car only gave me 20mpg so this has got to be an improvement.

The brochure goes nowhere near to explaining all the little toys including heated wiper elements in the windscreen.

So as far as day one is concerned, deep joy. Tomorrow it is getting the carnuba wax treatment. :)

well done on your purchase,let me just say you would be better off using the carlacke system first then wax as this will protect against paint burns caused by bird droppings,the wax alone will not.

Just down the road from you so I'll keep an eye open for a gleaming black on black...mines Cadoxton Slate or Smokey Granite Mica as our American cousins call it.

I am sure you will love your new car I have the SE and I like mine. Supaguard will last no longer than two weeks three at best, quite poor really. You will be better using carlack nano as suggested followed by two or more coats of good quality wax. If possible do not wax for 12 hours after applying carlack this allows it to cure and harden. I was very tempted to go for the Cadoxton Slate with MM, but didn't want to hit my savings too hard, plus my last four cars have been metallic and the grief I have had when needing a touch up, car park dings, not my fault, drove me mad. So have opted for a solid colour, yesterday when on the drive the looked like a mirror.

I have to admit I dont have a lot of confidence in supa guard, but it was done cheaply and my main concern was the interior, I am guaranteed spill damage (which hopefully will not happen) will be treated, failing that replaced. I don't really want to try this option, but I have the cover.

Only town driving at the mo, 29mpg, only 50 miles!

Any advice on correct fuel, forgot to ask the dealer?

Bought two bottles of Dps4 yesterday for about £7 each. Put 4 measures in and topped the tank up again. Done 150 miles, computer now says tank average 40.4mpg. Also gave the car a degrease clay and hard soft wax. Boy does it gleam.

Off to the Indian Ocean for some R&R, interested to see what mpg come from the trips to the airport. Manual says to let the engine tick over for two mins after such a journey to help turbocharger. Any experiences here?

i think its to do with bringing the temp of turbo down gradually and has been std advise since invention,you should see late 40's at 75 in 6th on cruise.going to convert you to carlack ,keep your dist on motorway black chips easilyand have agreat trip.

the tick over is to cool down the turbo, as dgman said. I wouldn't be too worried about it. Unless you stop immediately after you pull out from highway, there is no need for such extra idling. Even a mile of slower driving before the destination will let the temperature of the turbo to drop down, so you can stop the engine almost at once. I would say about 30 seconds is usually enough.

Found this....

In the early days of turbochargers, the turbo shaft was supported by a babbitt bearing that could seize, or even melt if the engine was shut off immediately after sustained boost conditions where the turbocharger would “heat soak”. A two minute cool down at idle allowed the turbocharger to dissipate any remaining spinning inertia, and the oil circulation cooled the bearing and prevented oil “coking” in the bearing area. Turbochargers haven’t used babbitt bearings for over 30 years, and today’s oils resist coking.

Probably in the manual as a warranty get out! By the time you've folded the mirrors and swore at the mpg readout it should be ok to switch off! :lol:

They do nothing. Don't improve economy or make engine sound smoother.

It's all in the mind.

No expert here - so question - isn't the extra 4 cetane just like shoving "super" diesel in??? That made no difference to mine...see here:

I can't help thinking it's a placebo effect (call me cynical) - though some of these ultimate fuels are "synthetic" accoding to some info on the web. DPS4 is an additive to normal derv...so who knows. I am also a little worried about some comments about the ECU and how it might be affected...

May be that's what they shoved into the tst car when they did the Govt tests....

PS - also - the Nov 2007 issue of Whatcar (I only bought it due to the new A4..) has a section (pg 118) on Superfuels...their finding were that it offered little if any benefit at all....and it wa down to people if they really thought it might prolong engine or components...

its amazing how anyboby can give a definitive user review for a product that they have not used.the posts of the users of dps4 on this site have only been positive.we all know our own cars and how to calculate mpg.so i suggest the placebo effect could all be in your minds.

All I said is that there is a difference in opinion from people WHO HAVE used it...that's all...i clearly state "mixed views" if you read my post...

you clearly state that you think the users of dps4 are imagining that they have had benefit from the product.you promote scrare stories about dps4 damaging ecu equipment without any foundation.i i checked with millers technical about the suitability of dps4 and the is 220d and they with their decades of experience assured me of such.most of the time your comments are interesting and valid but your way off the mark this time.

I don't kno whether it's true - so I'v copied the links for others to read into it and do their investigation...It's not scarmongering - just simple opinions and I made it clear that I am no expert.

Mine is on it's umpteenth Lexus approved ECU mod - the last thing I'm going to do is compromise all of their hard work by shoving something in to clear the symptoms. I'm sure lots of ther people too have these mod's done...if on the other hand my dealer tells me to use it - then fine - I'll give it a go...

You carry on mate...if the manufacturer states it's OK then it must be, and from what I've read it offers nothing more than a superfuel, which tested recently by Whatcar (and myself too in the Lex) showed no discernible difference.

If you have seen a difference, then great for you - may be I'm the mug for not using it or Wynns etc, but I really cannot see why in the modern world you have to shove in enhancers to make a car do what it states it should do...

I'd rather let my dealer and the manufacturer sort it rather than shoving in a form "Viagra" to enhance it, unless they tell me to

As for Millers - I switched from v-power to standard diesel with DPS4 - over the past four tanks I've gone from 36 to 40 mpg. That is a fact, no change in driving style at all. But again thats just my experience.

It is also strange you say you're opening peoples eyes (Basically saying I'm showing you the truth over the lies) and then go on to say you're no expert. Which is it?

it's strange that jamboo can have such a strong veiw point on a product he has never used.the second and more important point,are his comments about users of dps4 that have recorded benefits are suffering a placebo effect.if i said that all of the problems with his car were in his imagination i'm sure he would take offence.
