Looking For X Reg Rx300 In Black, & Need Help.

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

This is my 1st post, so I hope it's in the right place.

I'm selling my IS200 and upgrading to an RX.

My wish list is,

Black.

under 80k.

SE or SE Nav.

Cream Leather.

X reg (2001 X if pos.)

I have a few questing that I hope someone can help me with.

1, I'm looking for an X reg due to the new road tax pricing, I believe RX's registed before 1st March 2001, will not be taxed at the higher £400+ rate. Is this correct?

2, I don't really like the 2 tone look of the earlier RX's. So far I have only found X reg cars in blue or silver that come all in one colour with body coloured bumpers. Did lexus make a single colour black model car in 2001 (X) reg or were they all black/grey lower half?

Here's a link to the look I like but this car is 2001(51) not 2001(X).

3, Based on my wish list what should I be spending as prices seem to be all over the place on older RX's.

4. Any other advice very welcome.

Regards & Thanks

CJ

Hi,

The stupid £400 tax rate like you said is only for cars registered after March 2001 (Mine was registered in August 2001 so naturally I am gutted :tsktsk: ) - to counter this and give Gordon Brown less money I'm getting LPG fitted in a couple of months.

Not sure about the two-tone paint or prices as they seem to be all over the shop.

My only other advice would be to get the updated sat-nav disc as it makes a load of difference with new roads etc. Also watch out for corroded wheels.

Cheers

John

Hi itchy,

Are you selling your car or just bragging? :D

I'm new to this forum, but i couldn't add pictures from my pc either. I inserted links to pictures already on other websites. So if there are pictures online somewhere you should be able to due it.

I think I have found a car (in black) it's in the midlands & I'm down in Kent so I'm trying to get as much info as possible via email before I make the trip. The lady selling is a bit clueless she only bought the car as her range rover was having major work done & needed a car for a couple of months. She was unsure what reg it is & doesn't know if it has service history. It's like pulling teeth, but if i get the car it makes its all worth while.

regards

CJ

There isn't much (15 measly quid) discount on road tax for LPG, I'm on about the overall running costs after converting to LPG.

Thanks for the posts,

So I'm looking for Black, X reg, Low milage, good wheels, not 2-tone & already converted to LPG.

Should be easy to find!

Hi itchy

She couldn't tell me a lot really, she got the car from a gagrage and doesn't have any paperwater apart from the log book.

So no history at all on a 2001 car with 85k on the clock is a bit of a worry. I could do a service myself but as I don't know if the cam belt has been done, Does anyone know when they are due on these & how much it costs? I'm thinking not cheap.

But it is the black I want, SE model and a good price. I'm just don't know what to do?????

cheers

CJ

Logically speaking, you're considering a 7 year old Lexus 4 wheel drive with 85k on the clock, the current lady owner doesn't have a clue about the car, and there is NO evidence that will allow you to determine whether's it has been abused or cared for?

If you do go forward, investigate the background thoroughly-even a RAC inspection doesn't really inspect much.

If a car sounds too good to be true, there's probably an expensive bill waiting round the corner!

You're probably right,

I made a silly offer toninght 1K below the asking price via email. Thinking is something goes wrong I'll have a bit of cash spare or could get the cam belt done as a precaution.

Surprisingly my offer was turned down, no counter offer came back either.

As the car is a 7 hour round trip away I wanted to agree a price before traveling. I didn't want to make the trip, like the car and be forced to pay full price as the seller would know she had me by the balls.

So still driving the old IS for a couple more weeks at least.

Hi All,

Well I'm still on the look out for 2001 X reg in Black.

I've been in contact with a lady in the midlands about one and was going to look/buy it tomorrow. Even without history an 85k on the clock it still looked good so I was going to take a chance.....

....until she gave me the name & address of where the car was. I googled it and found the place online here's a link. Have a look and you'll see why I'm nolonger making the 4 hour drive from Kent.
