Quote "the measures will be "phased in" rather than brought in straight away"

Quote from Shadow Treasury Minister Justine Greening: "What kind of policy creates a situation where the owner of a new Porsche will face a smaller tax increase than a family driving an older car?"

I feel for all of us who drive post 1st March 2001 cars.

This realy isnt on how can they penalise us for having a car that at the time wasnt a poluter more to the point my diesel estate polutesmore than my lexus everyday but that wont be affected by the change its insane

i fully understand taxing the chelsea tractors that seem to rule the roads and high polution cars from now onwards but to back date it to 2001 its just pure evil and money grabbing it wont help the polution it will help the MP's have that nice new automated kitchen and there nice new cars that we pay the tax for anyway

Rant over

This daft effing legislation will do nothing more than create a huge amount of individuals who drive around without car tax because

a: They just can't afford to tax the vehicle

b: They just say :tsktsk: - I'm not going to pay that much.

The already underfunded overstretched forces will not be able to deal with the vast influx of new offenders and the whole thing will become another Labour fiasco.

Don't forget who you are dealing with - Polititians..... They're NOT THAT BRIGHT !!!!

Problem is when they catch you they can take the car away immediately...........

Where I live they do regular exercises where you go round a corner are funneled into one lane............theres a camera van and 1/2 a mile up the road lots of DVLA and police

Cars are clamped on the spot with some put on low loaders and taken away....if they have no tax/MOT/Insurance

Think its a great idea myself as it gets the uninsured off the roads..........

However doesnt help with a justified protest :crybaby:

Happens here too.I'm all in favour of these cameras as opposed to speed cams.

Get the untaxed vehicles off the road, they often have no insurance either. If the car tax evaders paid up maybe the roads might be improved with the extra revenue(did I really put that!) Actually the money would probably help our cash strapped politicians out with their numerous holidays etc.

Not sure what you mean "justified protest"

the increase in VED dressed up as a green tax when all it is further taxation which is not ring fenced to improve the environment but just lost in GB PLC's coffers

I read some where that if you remove every area of the motor trade, and i mean every thing, the making of new, making of parts, tyres, exhausts, motor sport, you get the idea!!.This would reduce the pollotion in the world by 8%.If on the other hand you got shot of all the cows(or corked there bums),you would reduce pollution by 12%.Simple really, black coffie and toast on your drive to work!

By pollution im talking about co2 and green house gas :whistling:

This is total BS, but we knew it was coming so nothing has really changed. On a lighter note, saw a Cayenne today with license plates that said "TAX ME" (not sure of the actual make up of the plate as it flashed past) which was quite amusing - they've already got us bent over with our trousers down, may as well have a sense of humour about it

Im not in favour of the hike in tax even though i own a pre 01 car but in real terms (be gentle please) the rise is the price of a pack of 20 fags a WEEK or 5 goes on the lottery or a couple of pints of beer!!!

If i had to pay the rise, im sure im going to one day because in my mind i will not let this or any other government tell me what i can/cant drive i work hard to give me what i want to do in life and to give me choices.

So Mr Darling.......up yours :P

The guy who invented reggae reggae sauce would do a better job of running this country.

I'm gonna buy the cheapest oldest toyota harrier I can find when these increases come in.

One of my mates replaced his 05 bmw X5 and 57 630i with a 2000 911 turbo and mercedes camper thing to avoid the tax - thats gonna make a tonne of difference to the eniviroment!

Tw@ts, the lot of em.

Why should it be left to the haulage industry?.... its about time we as motorists joined together and protested as one.I would like to see what the do gooders in No 10 would do if the whole of the country took 2 days off.

You cant protest anymore in this country, the lorry drivers had to park on the M40 for hours and then about 6 lorries were police escorted into Westminster, how is that going to have an effect. The Labour party doesn't work for the working class anymore they are more blue than Conservative....i dont trust any of them and they(no party) will never get my vote.

Don't be fooled into thinking that if you drive a pre-2001 car you are going to get out of higher car tax. I'm sure that once the heat has died off from this present hike they (this government) will start to look at the older cars. All they need to do is seperate the cars ito more bands based on CC and tax the arse off the ones with the big engines.

Dave.

My response to that is in post # 15.

I have to get to work some days at 4am and no bus can get me there so i need a car....whatever it costs...and will continue to drive. We've still got toll roads to come as well......yippeeee!!

This bill could go the same way as the 10p tax fiasco. Diesel has already hit £6 a gallon

I thought it funny that a politician explaining why they couldn't avoid the retrospective tax bit explained that they didn't have the money to do this as "money doesn't grow on trees". Quite :megaangry:

Whilst I wholeheartedly agree with your sentiment, if you don't vote then you can't moan...
