Hi, First post, took me 2 days to post this ( if it goes through ).

Just thought i'd introduce myself, having bought my first Lexus is200 last week.

I thought it would be alot faster than it is. Does it need lots of rev's or is their something wrong?

Also, i sometimes get a little shudder when taking off in 1st, maybe just me getting used to the clutch.

Anyway, after reading alot of your posts, i'd just like to say hello,

Tommy

Hi mate, thanks for the reply,

Having come from a BMW316i 102 BHP, i think i was expecting a bit too much.

Welcome to the forum :)

I too get a little "shudder" when driving off in 1st (regardless, whether the engine is cold or hot). It is rather discomforting & embarrassing particularly when driving with your senior colleagues...

What could be the reason? Is it common in IS200s or do we need to worry here?

Welcome to the club matey :D the judder your getting is a common thing in the older IS200's mines been doing it for the 3 years i've owned it, but you get used to it after a bit :)

Thanks for the reply mate, that makes me feel a wee bitty better,

Thought i had just bought a car needing a new clutch :whistling:

Welcome to LOC.

The IS200 is more of a compact executive cruiser than any sort of fast car. @ 70 on the motorway it should be fairly effortless,

and very smooth. if you were desperate for more power, you could always supecharge it. Many members have and it makes a

massisve difference with 30% more torgue and 30% more horsepower :whistling:

If you put to fewer revs when engaging the clutch it will judder....it does take some time to get used to the throttle and matching the revs about 1500 is right... :winky:

Your advise is much appreciated, had a wee idea i wasnt revving enough :whistling:

Thanks. I was on the motorway yesterday doing between 70-80 in 6th gear and their seemed to be a lot of gearstick wobble, do you think i was just not going fast enough in 6th ?

I had a lot of that until I had my wheels properly balanced at Wheels in Motion. That made a massive difference. Tony has a very impressive modern wheel-balancing machine there.

Do you feel general vibrations as well as the gearstick wobbling ? i.e. is the gearstick wobbling just because the whole car is wobbling at that speed ?

Hi Stevie, yes mate, seems like the whole car is wobbling, thought i may have been driving in 6th too slow 70-80?

I've only had my car a matter of a few days, but you shouldn't get wobbling in 6th at 70-80. Mine is smooth at that speed (well, it is now since the wheels were balanced). It does sound like it could be the wheel balancing. It would be worth getting them checked since wheel balancing is pretty inexpensive.

I'm sure someone who understands these sort of things a lot better than me may also be able to pass comment.

Welcome to the club, I have the same problem with my clutch, seems to go away when its warm, you get used to it. You'll still love the car.

Any pics of your new baby yet? ;)

Cheers,

James

Hi Mate...

Just to add to the comments above...

Its a matter of getting used to the car, like others have mentioned I initially thought the clutch was on its way out, but its just a matter of getting rev/clutch balance correct...

With regards to selecting 6th...I've found just depends on whether your going uphill or not but the optimum speed I've found for using 6th is post 80mph...

(so rarely use 6th gear!....lol)

I think my only gripe after two years of ownership is the steering wheel position to the top of the speedo. In order for me to get the most comfortable driving postion with the steering wheel, the top of the dials are blocked....

..But after my experience with an IS200..I will definately consider trading up for an IS220d next year...
