Howdee Pardners

Just received a letter from local Lexus main agent. Here is the first paragraph (mine is a 1996, Mk 3):

"It is recommended by Lexus GB that the cambelt on your vehicle is replaced at 100,000 miles or 10 years, which ever comes soonest [sic]. (IS200/IS300 100.000 miles or 6 years)."

I hope this is of interest, as I have seen conflicting opinions on this.

- JB

PS As my car has done 125,000 miles, this reminder is only two years late. And I can't spell 'cambelt', but the edit function won't let me correct the subject line !

That's very interesting, I thought on the IS it was originally 100k/10years, then they moved it down to 60k/6 years.

Mine is not far off 60k, but it's only just 4 years old. So I can wait 2 yrs according to this?!?!?! I thought I'd need to get it done at 60k.

As I understand it, a Lexus cambelt actual snappage is unheard of. And if the aforequoted intervals are from the horse's mouth, I would carry on to six years - unless you suddenly have to do a daily commute to Land's End and rack up the 100,000 before then.

My LS400 was serviced by the same lexus dealer its whole life, cambelt was replaced at 148,000kms, about 90,000 miles, 150,000kms is the rule here. The belt on the 1uz is massive tho (wide). I would've thought the 3s would be a 100k cambelt like most others.
