Yes we were fine thanks.

It was a dumper loading up where the council are re-surfacing the pavements at the end of our road.

He was been loaded on one side, on the other side was a small van.

There was a big enough gap for me to get through, until he moved forward without looking to see if there was anything there.

It was a ringways truck, and the driver admitted fault, so there should be no problems.

Both vehicles travelling at less than walking pace, but those Mercedes trucks have a lot of mass.

Took out the door, the back wing and the wheel and tyre.

Good thing is that the back wing had a small crease in it from a wheelie bin in high winds, so not all bad news!!

  • 3 weeks later...

Bad news Folks.

The insurance company E-mailed me yesterday and told me that the car is "uneconomic to repair".

:crybaby:

They also told me that it was no longer insured and that as such would be ilegal to drive!

However a couple of phone calls later they said that because the damage is cosmetic they would carry on with the insurance until the claim was sorted out.

So I am now in the market for a 430.

Which I need yesterday, because they will want to sort this out in days rather than weeks now.

Which would leave me without a car. A disabled wife and a 77 year old mother that needs driving around means that having no car is not really an option.

So dear friends, if you know, or come across a Mr Jonathan Miles from the claims department of Admiral insurance, would you do me a quick favour.

Tell him that this is from a certain Lexus owner in Skegness, just before you give him a really good hard kick in the Bo**ocks.

Surely if the other driver has admitted fault, you can get a hire car at their expense until the claim is finalised?

How much are they offering you for yours?

the car is still insured till the claim is finalised, so wont need hire car, and they have not made an offer yet.

this doesnt make sense. seeing as the other guy admitted fault then why is the insurance company cancelling your policy? if they want to write the car off then try and buy it back. repairs will cost a lot less privately and you'll also get the car for dirt cheap. if you were in the car when you were hit then get to the docs asap for a check up and also contact your solicitors as you could have whiplash ;) ;)

Fair enough, all sounds pretty annoying when the car seems in such good condition with just cosmetic damage.........hope you get a decent settlement :)

Hello Steve,

It looks like its only a cat D write off or max cat C, you are probably only looking at 7 or £800 to repair it at a good body shop

and you would probably be able to buy the salvage for £500.

At most you would have to have a VIC (vehicle I D check ) check to see if its a cat c or d.

You could be quids in and not loose a car you know.

I had the same thing happen to me last year with a Motorcycle ( the day I bought it) my neighbor revesed out of her drive and it was a cat D write off I ended up with the bike fixed £1500 in my bin

Good luck Mark

What????????????

You're looking at a used rear door for about £150(Someone breaking one) and then the panel resprayed and the rear wing with a flash over on the drivers door to blend the colour for around £300 fully fitted and sprayed. cars worth more than that.

Keep the car and find a door. Should be around £70 a panel for respray from any specialist.

Let me know where the insurance company sell the car and I might by it and fix it myself. Get a cheap LS430 for pennies.

But when you get it do yourself a favour:

DONT USE ADMIRAL INSURANCE BECAUSE THEY ARE A PAIN IN THE AR$E

Steve

Thats a lot like mine, same colour outside but grey instead of cream inside, you will not be disapointed with it. They are lovely cars and that one looks well looked after.

Hope you enjoy it

Pete

Thanks, the previous owner has gone down in the world apparently.

He swapped the LS for a Bentley

:winky:

I like that!

Keep the car, source and finance the parts and repairs yourself, IMHO. Hopefully the damage is no more than cosmetic. Insurance companies are obviosuly there to look after themselves, and their profits, so I would not be surprised at their verdict. Tight, and tighter still in the current economic climate.

Commiserations.

Bottom line is that vehicles are far simpler to repair than the human body, and, no-one was hurt.
