Don't Want To Go Back To Lexus For Servicing....

Hi

My Lexus IS200 has done 120000 miles, and it has been serviced by them up untill now. Thing is I called them up for the 120000 mile service and they said it would cost £750 !!!!! I asked them why so much and they replied that the spark plugs would be replaced and that was the major part of the service in terms of the high cost!

My question is, is this reasonable? Also, if I wanted to take the car to another mechanic, what are the main things he should do in the service in terms of replacements, i.e. what should I ensure is done?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I live near Pinner in London and if anyone knows any mechanics that either specialise in lexus/toyota servicing or just any recommended mechanics, near me I would appreciate their contact.

Many Thanks

spark plugs could be changed by a novice on the is 200. only prob i had was i short and had to stand on my tip toes to reach the last one at the bulkhead lol. serious half an hour max. ik20 plugs off eBay for around 40-50 quid. tell them you dont want plugs changed. any decent garage can service it if you dont mind not having full lexus service history. only reason most people use main dealers is to maintain the warranty for first few years.

Which dealer said that? (I'm guessing Edgware Road) That sounds ridiculous, I just had my most expensive service, the cambelt one and that was £695..........I stopped using Edgware Road a while back and switched to Woodford who are much better. I'd give them a go but I think you'd probably still be looking at around a £400 bill.

I used to use Lexus Hatfield! My 100000 mile cambelt service cost me £950!!!! And thats with no extra's, just the service and the cambelt! I now realise that they are ridiculously expensive compared to others. Mind you, i did once shop around and found that Twickenham lexus were cheaper on a particular service and lexus hatfield matched it!

Still, I think i have paid out excessive amounts to hatfield!

Whereabouts in London are you ? If you can be more specific, then someone here might be able to recommend an independent Lexus specialist who is not too far away from you. Although as Bazza said, for a straightforward service there's nothing particularly specialised anyway, perhaps just things like making sure they use the proper Toyota coolant if they're changing that, etc.

If you're in Pinner, Edgware Road would probably have been better for you than Hatfield, but if you don't mind the trip I'd recommend Woodford - they're much cheaper than the other dealers and their service is second to none.

It won't be a help for servicing, but if you're near to Watford then WIM (Wheels in Motion) aren't a million miles away from you.

You might have seen other posts mentioning their geometry setting service, which could potentially work wonders on your car's handling and stop any premature tyre wear problems (on the edge of the tyre) that you might have experienced in the past.

Hi Guys.

Thanks for the recomendations, to those that havnt heard about us, please feel free to atleast call or pm for a quote, tell us what you have been quoted by a Lexus dealer or Lexus specialist and I will personally try to offer you a price that you cant turn down, that usually means better and cover your aditonal petrol where possible ( please no scotland customers) :whistling:

If truth were known most buyers like to see a Independant specilaists stamp in the book as Independant specilaist thrive purely on recomendations not the brand.

Good luck.

I just my 60k service done at Lexus Sidcup & the timing belt too and paid just short of £700. The service there was excellent i must add & would be using them again

What about if you would have saved £200 by using someone else who offers the same standards.

:winky:

Saving money is always a good thing. But found using my local dealer (which is just around the corner) more convenient as i really needed to get the work done sharp, but must add also got all my brake pads changed. Am looking for an independent dealer around here & if they can offer a good and competitive service, will defo give them a try.
