Menezes Inquest : Farce?

The police lied and then the public found out the truth-usual story. Its all been one big embarassing mistake for the Police that im sure they'd all rather forget. If they'd simply told the truth, perhaps the public wouldnt be so shocked by the latest revelations that everything the police said was contradictory to what the independent witnesses and the cctv revealed. That twit chief Ian blair left office mainly becuase of this catastrophic mistake and hopefully we'll all be safer as a result. The few things that have been understood from this tragedy are that the police have been part of some severe failures,19 in total i think, which is not surprising really, but the worst of all is that they are practically immune from prosecution when they put their useless marksmen to work. Basically meaning they can shoot any innocent person's son and then simply apologise for it and that should be the end of it. I dont care who stays in this country illegally -they are welcome!life and human beings are more important than borders and politics and if someone is killed and the police in any country attempt to cover it up,the truth should always be revealed.

He didn't run from the police.

The police said that he ran, until the truth emerged and they were forced to correct their story.

IIRC, he was in the UK legally at the time he was shot, although he may have outstayed a tourist visa on a previous occasion.

Totally inaccurate. If you had read your link further, it provides a link to the following which totally refutes your comments that he was here legally.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/5173032.stm

Part of the link:

"The Home Office said Mr Menezes had been granted entry to the UK for six months as a visitor on his arrival on 13 March 2002. He then applied for leave to remain as a student, which was approved. He was granted leave to remain until 30 June 2003. The Home Office says his visa expired at that time and that he remained illegally in the UK until his death."

I thought I'd seen a report that he'd left the country and returned via Ireland, but there's been so much misinformation published I could easily be mistaken.

EDIT:

This must be the report I was thinking of.

It was probably corrected later.

Doesn't alter the fact that he wasn't running from the police, wasn't wearing a bulky jacket, didn't jump over the barrier, or commit any of the other suspicious acts which the police invented to justify their mistake.

Leaving aside the obvious fact that his immigration status had absolutely nothing to do with his death, the IPCC report says, in a footnote on page 21, that "Evidence emerged during the course of the criminal trial into the Health and Safety charge that Mr de Menezes was lawfully in the country on 22 July 2005".
