New Member, Indicator Buzzer Annoying! Is200

Recommended Posts

First of all let me say hello. I've just bought an absolutely mint 2001 is200 se auto, with just 17,000 miles on the clock. Full lexus service history, and is in A1 condition. I love the car, my only gripe so far is the noise the indicators make. I've scoured the manual to see if this can be turned off, it seems ridiculous to have the buzzers sounding every time you make a turn.

As well as this site i'm also on the Saab forum, i have an old 900 turbo, 1991 and would welcome any advice on where second hand parts can be got hold of should the need arise. There are a good few Saab breakers and wondered if there were any Lexus specialists doing the same which other members could recommend. Many thanks, Neil

What buzzers?

Its like a buzzer or bell or something which rings when you turn the indictors on? In most cars its just a clicking noise rather than this, just find it a bit loud really. Slightly different tones when you turn left or right?

sounds like the relay is sticking, are they actually flashing

Yes they work just fine, its a proper ringing sounding. I think its supposed to do it to be honest, just unusual i thought. Never had a car make a noise like that before when you indicate.

Thanks for the welcome to the club, i'll try and get some photos up if i can. Its the straightest car i've seen of this age, it even smells brand new.

Howdy and hello.

I find mine really quiet too, lots quieter than other cars. Definitely not heard of any cars with a ringing? why would someone add that tho? must be dodgy relay

Could be that the previous owner was hard of hearing and needed something louder, so maybe the dealer rigged something up or fitted an aftermarket thing. If you the fsh is there the dealers may be able to help.

It hasn't got a towbar fitted has it? Because by law you need some sort of indication to show that the trailor indicators are working, either a light on the dashboard, or more normally (as it's easier to fit) a buzzer. The buzzer should only go with a trailer connected - otherwise it's been wired in wrong, or there's a short/dodgy earth in the trailer socket wiring somewhere.

This is all assuming that you've got a tow bar, which on an IS200 is pretty unlikely!

Must say it sounds a bit strange, my indicators can only just be heard! When i first got the car and Sarah was with me she used to keep hitting me because she thought i wasn't using the indicators!!!! She still hits me but for other reasons now :whistling: :shutit:

Maybe the last owner was deaf and had something a bit louder fitted?

You can get indicator buzzers for bikes now, too. Since bikes have no automatic cancel it's a lot easier to leave them on, with potentially unpleasant consequences!
