What are the differences between a Toyota Altezza and a Lexus IS200?

Lot of people have told me to avoid an Altezza due to it being a import, but why?

With the accident and possibility, well high possibility of a write off, considering my options

No theres loads of differences.

If you do a search theres a lot of threads on it.

But basically the Altezza is indeed an import. comes as a AS200 (same engine as the IS200) or a RS200 (4 cylinder 200+ bhp engine)

But their basic inside (cloth interior etc)

I've seen altezza having the beams engine with some of 210bhp, no heated seats, and stuff like that

That's the RS200 that Stav was referring to. The trim spec can vary, see this website for a guide.

Imports can be more expensive to insure, but then again you can try specialists like Sky Insurance (trader on here) that are used to that sort of thing.

I think that a lot of the parts are common and will be easy to get via Toyota/Lexus. Don't know how easy it is to get the Altezza-specific parts.

As Stav said, try using the "Search" button on the forum to look for "Altezza"

if it has a toyota part number then the part is available at your local dealer

import or not !

Yeah but how easy are they to get, how long does it take ? I would guess it might take a lot longer to get certain parts and they could be more expensive ? Or is this not the case ? Genuine question, since I have no experience of this.

I had to order a replacement wingmirror for the drivers side a while back - it's slightly different to the UK model as the JDM version has powered wingmirrors like the IS. It only took a few days from what I remember?

Price wise it wasn't too bad I don't think - I think seeing as the parts for all Toyota and Lexus motors are coming from Japan they're all going to go up together now though at the same rate!

same price as they would be if you were buying for a native car

delivery, normally 2-3 days dependant on the part, most stock is held in .....belgium i think

ok if you had a lexus is200, and could get one exactly the same bar the features with 210bhp, same price same color same standard, which one would you go for, the is200 or altezza?

ive had both, and prefer the build specification of the is200

I would go for the IS 200.

Before I bought my IS 200, I test drove an Audi A4, BMW 325i, Alfa, Merc and an Altezza, when I think back there is a massive difference IMO between the IS and Altezza, go for an IS.

The Altezza RS200 is also about 100Kg lighter than the IS200.

As said parts are not difficult to get body, chassis, brakes and suspension parts are the same as the IS200 and the short engine is the same as the MR2 and also some Celicas. The head is however unique to the Tezza.

The reduced weight with higher power and torque makes the Tezza a lot quicker than a stock IS200. A lot of the reduced weight comes from less sound insulation so the Tezza is less refined that the IS.

Fuel consumption is dire on mine, about 23 to the gallon at best, and with a 60 litre tank the range is a lot less.

So you "pays your money and takes your choice" I guess.

Fuel consumption 23mpg!!!! Crikey. I'm getting that on average from my LS430.

Gets worse as I only do local "running around" at the moment and it's down to about 20mpg, best I had was about 27 on a long run.

Still fun when you blast it, but an Aristo would cost about the same to run as the Tezza, not as good round the bends though :whistling:

Mine is similar to Neils and i got 34mpg on a long run and wasn't really trying

normally get mid 20's :)

before anyone makes up their mind they should drive an RS200 and see if it's for them, it's not to everyone's taste but if you like a bit of fun they you'll forgive the lack of refinement .... they are comfortable though as standard ;)

LOL thats not bad at all.

I get 24 on a long motorway journey and about 17 round town.

That sucks lol

Not surprised you only get 24 on the Motorway mate, you were spotted last Sunday by my Stepsons on the M1 near MK :whistling:

Have you decatted as well Noel?

Thing is that "power is the rate of conversion of energy", or our case "how quick can you burn petrol"
