Please can anyone tell me how to remove the steering wheel on my 1992 LS 400 ?

I`m concerned not to damage anything,so how does the horn push centre piece come undone?

Does anyone know if the wheel in on a spline or hexagon fitment on its` centre ?

Many Thanks in anticipation.

Ian

Hi Ian. Welcome to LOC

Not 100% sure this is correct but the wheel will have a spline fitting. You will probably have to use a puller to get the wheel of the shaft after undoing the nut.

There should be plastic trim pieces around the indicator/wiper sticks. Those trim pieces should pop off and inside you should see screws to remove the front.

It is recommended to remove the Battery beforehand, especially if you have an airbag.

I`ll give it a try when I next have the opportunity,I don`t think it has an air bag though.

If I remember correctly there are 2 screws holding the horn pad in place and these are accessed from behind the steering wheel, if you lower and extend the wheel fully and then turn the wheel you should be able to see them in recessed holes.

Take them out then pull off the pad.

DO NOT FORGET TO DISCONNECT THE Battery AND THEN WAIT AT LEAST 30 MINUTES!!!

A lot of cars have a "backup" power supply for the airbag so be careful, I would not sit directly behind the steering wheel during removal just in case.
