Direct Line are no good when it comes to mods, they wanted to charge me a fortune just for a K&N panel filter even though I explained how little difference it makes to the car's performance.

So a non Lexus air filter is now classed as a modification the world has gone mad

Well, you should tell the insurance company about that sort of thing because it's not just a regular non-Lexus air filter, it's a "performance" air filter. So if you crashed the car, hadn't declared it, and the insurance company spotted it then they could use it as an excuse not to pay out. So best to be safe and tell them. Trouble is, Direct Line put it into the same category as anything else that increased the bhp by quite an amount and wanted lots of money for it. So I switched to Sky, who are much more sensible about mods.

I was with Direct Line on the IS and paid only about an extra £250-300 with my mods declared? Including the SC, twin exhaust, tinted windows all round, £3ks worth of Blitz alloys and the bodykit? How much more were they trying to charge you Stevie for the filter?

Have to admit though personally I wouldn't declare a panel filter if it looks identical to stock as they'd never know, and to be honest there are loads of people driving around in cars with small modifications made by previous owners who never told the person buying the car.

That does make me wonder though, if they get really pedantic about it, how come you can fit OEQ parts to a car and they don't complain about that yet? For example Joe Bloggs takes his car to a garage and they fit say Blueprint pads and disks - technically it's a modification as the vehicle isn't actually running standard parts, yet I'd bet there are a shed load of cars on the roads running like that!

It is all a joke at the end of the day!

If you read your policy schedule/ policy handbook they normally state things which should be declared as:

Changes made which improve its value, performance, handling or attractiveness to thieves.

Fantastic - so that means that you can do what the Top Gear boys did and just put big stickers on your car saying "Vote Hilary Clinton" or "Man love is ok" and your policy will actually go down

your quoes make me feel ill :(

Sorry mate, one day you will be as old as me :winky:

£520 for me with Admiral - seems like London is just expensive (32, full NCB, no claims, no accidents)

Had to argue for that, pointing out that I could be insured for £1350 on a £30,000 Ferrari F550 Maranello parked on the street so perhaps there was a bit of an issue with an old LS. Hmmm????

So they knocked about £100 off.
