Blower Re-circulation Function Broken

Recommended Posts

Just had a service today and they tell me the "Blower re-circulation function" is broken, whatever that is. I can't say I've noticed anything untoward with anything blowey! Anyway, they say that to fix this would mean replacing the whole unit (not sure what unit...) and will cost £1266. Ouch!

Has anyone else had this issue, and if so - does it really matter if this function is broken, or can it b e fixed more cheaply, i.e. without having to replace the whole unit?

Thanks

I would guess its the air recirculation feature on the air con which helps get the car cooler in the summer as it's reusing the air from inside the car

rather than cooling warm air from out side. Its usefull but not absolutly needed i find it dries the air out to much and it makes me have a dry throat, so i never use it.

Might be worth checking with an a/c specialist. Depending on the age of the car & service history it might be worth approaching Lexus GB to see if they will help at all.

Sorry to hear about your predicament. I guess some of the people debating whether or not they should renew their warranty might want to have a read of this thread? Just goes to show how something small and inconspicuous can result in such a huge repair bill...

Yes, good point - I have just called Lexus to get a two year extended warranty (though no doubt too late to help with this!)

dont listen to them saying you need the whole unit, i once just needed the open/close button for the sat nav of my is300,, tried telling me it only comes as a complete screen/motor... luckerly my friendly LOC member who works inthe parts dept of lexus supplied me the button only number..

Do they know actually the fault, is it the motor that moves the panel that shuts of the outside air or is it the electronics that move it..

I agree with Dave1. An A/C specialist would give you a full diagnosis and any options. I do think that it might be worth fixing to defend yourself from fumes from other traffic.

Doesn't sound like an AC problem - more a control panel issue. This is the problem with modern cars...too many electronics and motors. My old Toyota Corolla had a lever you pushed left to right to switch on re-circ...

I understand it is a panel or flap that would normally prevent bad air (i.e. smoky air in a smoky envoirenment) getting in, so it is something I can live with. I'm told the flap or panel is fixed to the unit thus a new one would be required.
