Urgent Help With Insurance Needed Please

Recommended Posts

Due to personal circumstances, I cant insure my car under my dads name with me as 2nd driver in order to keep my insurance down so I'm desperatly trying to get insurance quotes under my name but they're silly high with the lowest currently being £1800.If anyone can help me then I need insurance below the £1k figure, preferably below £800, I know its a lot to ask but thats what my budget is unfortunatly at the moment. I've had quotes of £500 fully comp under my dads name so hopefully its possible. I'm 25, with no ncb and live in the manchester area. Can anyone recommend me any insurers please who could help me as I need to get the car on the road by march 1st without any hiccups.

Thanks

Im with tesco, im 20 years old, 3 years no claims and fully comp under my own policy - works out just under £700 a year.

Get a quote through tescos online and all should be fine - pending you have no convictions...

Just did a quote on tescos website and it came back with £1888! lol...still looking at others.

Anees, I've already tried moneysupermarket and confused.com mate. Moneysupermarket gave me the best quote when I was trying with me as 2nd driver but with me as policy holder its got a lot more difficult to get a good quote.

The reason why I joined LOC was for the club discount I got on insurance. Does LOC still have that association?

At the time (about 6/7 years ago) I saved over £1,000 for being a member of LOC. Like you I like the Manchester (well Stockport) and was quoted almost £1,800 as a 30 yr old. I couldn't prove NCB as a previous company car had been subject to a hit and run and I had also been rear ended a couple of years before that.

I eventually got it for about £800 and continued to get insurance through the club supported insurer until 4 years ago when promotion meant work insured my car as a perk :whistling:

Thing is mate you live in Suffolk, which is a much much more desirable location for an insurance company to quote on then Manchester/Oldham.

We in this area do unfortunetly have to pay alot more for insurance. Sky Insurance for example are unable to quote for my postcode. I know the OL postcode comes up as a REFER and some of the Manchester M postcodes are also classed as a REFER on a list of insurance company ostcode desirability......... :(

i found that it was more expensive to insure my car in my dads name with me as a 2nd driver

so i tried insuring it in my name with him has the second driver down as a regular user and that seemed to help im 23 with 1 years NCB and all my mods declared and comes to around the 1300

Try HIC. I'm 21, 4 years NCB and live in a really high risk postcode. Just renewed for £780 Fully comp with protected NCB. Alternative option would have been £580 TPFT, but worth extra £17 for FC.

Cheapest quotes off Confused.com was £1200.

Anees, why is Manchester like that as I noticed when looking at the Sky website they blanket a load of postcode areas, is theft really that bad up there then as I can remember Wosket nearly got carjacked up there once I think?

To be fair, their is good and bad in every area, but obviously Manchester/Oldham do seem to have more bad areas then other places. Its annoying for people like myself who do share a postcode with a council estate down the road (not that their is anything wrong with council estates in general) which has a very bad reputation and pushes our insurance prices up, this despite the fact that I have been in my area since 1992 and in all that time we have never one had a car stolen from our road and I think the last burglary was around 10 years ago.

This is now going a bit :offtopic: but there are a lot of nice areas that attract crime. I live in a "nice" "affluent" area, as result people tend to have nicer stuff/cars attracting the scrote element. Touch wood not for a couple years now but I've had multiple attenpts of break in on my house and car, wifes car been vandalised on more than one occassion, a neighbour was car jacked outside her house. As a result of saving to live in a nice house in a nice area we then get hammered because scrotes are jealous! :tsktsk:

do you remember which insurance company you used by any chance mate?

Sorry can't remember but it was at one time affiliated with the MR2 Owners club. I think they were based in Devon? Can anyone else help?

I think because you are in an "Owners Club" the thinking is you take more pride in your car therefore less likely to have acident/make a claim. I know Porsche and even Volvo Owners Clubs get similar benefits or they used to.

APlan used to be the recommended one here, not sure why they disappeared but both them and Sky gave me by far the best quotes of anyone :)

I can understand why they won't insure people in certain postcodes as I guess all they'll do is pull out some stats about which are the worst areas in the country for theft and then price or refuse insurance accordingly.

Thing is though I wonder if they update this info on a rolling basis or whether it's just done say every 5 or 10 years and everyone has to suffer as the result of one bad year?

There were some dirty gypos nicking stuff around here recently, a guy in the village has some nice cars and has them all garaged up and it's getting silly now as he's got multiple locked gates stopping them getting nicked and still they try and get them! I'm wondering if he's got a weed factory or something hidden away as no-one is that interested in a Mini, a Ford X-Type and a Boxster

Been following this one and the other problem you have, probably as big as the postcode lottery, is no driving history. You don't have any NCB to your name. The down side of the "get the insurance in someone else's name and be a named driver", admittedly some insurers now take this into account.

My step son (19 with 3 years NCB including a scooter @ 16) has a little Corsa. Our postcode area rates low risk, he has no mods and pays about the same sort of amount in insurance as you are being quoted for the Lex. Balance it out and I think that you will find it hard to get a lot lower on the quotes :crybaby:

When I bought my IS200 (6 years ago) I was 23 years old with 0 NCB- like you, my main disadvantage was driving history and age. I paid £1900 that was with Tesco.

Now 6 years later (with 6 years protected NCD) I have renewed my insurance for £375 with Esure.
