Now I am  I've emailed the 250 TSIB to you.

It could occur on 2006-2007 IS250 models up to the following VIN numbers, after which the top assembly was changed:

TMK Production Plant, RWD versions up to VIN JTHBK262*72041664

Tahara Production Plant, RWD versions up to VIN2WD JTHBK262*75027761

Here's a link to more info, including a TSIB link http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/ind...309&hl=TSIB

Is that just 'one of those things'? After a few days sitting the oil settles in the sump, a bit of extra noise is inevitable. Mine sounds a little diesel-ish for the first 30 secs after the weekend, then it quietens down.

The sound of the V6 engine in mine leaves a great deal to be desired. I've not owned a car which I feel less inclined to rev as it sounds strained, thin and uninspiring. The later cars sound better... wonder if they'd do a new engine under wty!

NO Robert......it is not one of those things. The sound is a "ratcheting noise" for about a second on startup as the lock pin in the VVTi sprocket mechanaisms on the camsafts is not controlled by engine oil pressure.

They have apparently modified the above assembly to retain ;lock even in no oil pressur conditions.,,,,,but i am slightly sceptical . So if you have a ratchet socket set you can mimmick the noise by holding a socket and flicking the handle around .

the main point is .....will this eventually caused a bigger problem ....I am loath to let some of the mechanics i have seen into my engine .If lexus lent me the service tool and gave me the parts I would be happy to do it myself .

If only you could devise a method of holding the camshaft while undoing the sprokets it would save all the hassle of lifting out the camshafts.

I remember changing the chain and tensioner in a mazda 1300 in situ around the late 70s when all including the maker said you had to drop the engine .

God I am panicking at the thought of some inexperienced mechanic getting at my lovely donkey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

thats what the RAF does to you :whistling:

Ok guys,

Lexus Belfast were contacted on 16th feb and were given Tsib and an extract from here stating Reading and Woodford had tackled the problem.

They were to ring me back in a day od so .

Ok I had to email again today ....still no response so I rang and askedc for same guy .

He said he was "No further on" and said that it was not a fault on their system .

When i told him i expected better than this and that i would contact Lexus GB he she oh he would ring me tomorrow and book the car in .

So .......Is Alex Kirby still one of the main men in Lexus GB ???

I would appreciate any contact info for them ...and

Anyone got contact Nos for the places they got this problem sorted !!!

can u hear the engine knock/rattle?

Yes, but only after the vehicle has been sitting for a few days. Not when it is warm.

My car was in at Lexus Edinburgh this week. They have confirmed the engine rattle and have ordered the parts to fix. They did state that the TSIB only related to US vehicles (?), but that Lexus Uk were aware.

They also sorted some brake and steering recall issues. Lexus warranty still wont cover the dash rattle though.

Got the car baqck yesterday.

New steering rack under warranty, with a rear brake caliper and set of pads.

The engine rattle is to be fixed when they get the parts in.

Must be costing the brand an utter fortune.

Thank god I gave that 220d courtesy car back. Sorry guys, but what is that all about. 38mpg, I get 31 in the 250. As for the 6th gear............
