Hi all I'm new, I'm going to be buying a car in late April or around September this year, and a Lexus IS200 6sp manual has caught my eye, its listed at $14,250. What are the main problems with these cars? Are there any expensive things I should look out for? It has 18" Chrome wheels but I'm not interested in them, it looks like its the only modification. It has 162,000Km on it, they don't mention anything about service history either. I also scanned this which might be a bit of help for any of you:

Thanks in Advance. I asked this on the aussie forum but no one ever goes on there much it seems.

Hello and Welcome to the club matey :D

Few more tips on buying HERE

Think the big thing to check with the mileage is that its had the timing belt changed :)

Ah, thank you for that link, the welcome and the advice, would service logs indicate if it had been replaced? Also, does that list apply for Australian cars also? You know how sometimes there can be differences between the same car from either countries occasionaly etc :)

Not sure about the satnav but I think the other stuff should apply equally well to Oz cars.

As for the cam belt, there *might* be a sticker near/on the cam belt cover saying if it's been replaced. But the abscence of a sticker doesn't mean a lot. You could (or get a garage to) visually inspect the belt to see how new/worn it looks (not too difficult, a cover needs taking off).

It depends what you're comparing it to when you decide if it has "go" or not. e.g. I know you guys in Oz are keen on V8s, and it won't drive like one of those obviously (having a straight 6). The IS200 is more of a smooth cruiser than an out-and-out performance car. It does go but more so when you rev it above 3500rpm or so, it's fairly docile before that.

Yes they're pretty comfy IMHO for 4 people. The boot isn't particularly enormous if they all have luggage though.
